I believe in approaching those struggling with substance use from a non-judgmental stance and I have a deep understanding of the complexities of what living with a substance use disorder is like for both the individual and their loved ones due to my own experience having close loved ones in treatment for substance use throughout my life.
I believe beginning the process of therapy is a huge step towards strengthening your overall well-being. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, substance use , or life transitions I am here to assist in your mental health recovery. I have been working in the field of mental health and substance use since 2015 in a variety of therapeutic settings including residential treatment, a community integration mental health program, a prevention program based in a Houston private high school, The Menninger Clinic’s adolescent treatment program, and the J. Flowers Health Institute.

Feeling stuck, depressed or dealing with anxiety? Maybe you're thinking about a life without substance use . Perhaps you're considering a career change or just feeling unhappy. Many issues stem from entrenched, automatic patterns of thought, feeling and behavior. Creating a meaningful, rich, satisfying life starts with awareness. Without awareness of our patterns, we remain perpetually stuck in our old ways. You can develop awareness and the personal insight necessary to work toward improved functioning and increase quality of life.

It had been a couple of years since experiencing one of the main reasons I moved to Colorado – skiing in the mountains! My substance use was getting in the way of me living my best life.
Are you looking to deepen your recovery? Tired of the one-size-fits-all approach? My practice offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy as well as psychotherapy for addiction recovery. You’ve likely been through a lot and might be having a tough time identifying what’s getting in the way of making it through these tough times. Or maybe you have an idea of what’s happening and just unsure how to proceed. Ketamine can act as a catalyst for deep healing. Individual differences matter and together we can explore ideas and implement solutions for healing based on the context of your life situation.

My specialties include borderline personality disorder, sexual abuse, and alcohol/ substance use .
Mental health struggles can feel isolating. There is stigma in our society about receiving help. This only compounds the negative impact to our wellbeing. Life throws a lot of curve balls, and overcoming these hurdles is daunting, especially if we never learned how. I work collaboratively with clients to help them learn how to cope with mental health struggles as well as better understand the root causes.

I am a trauma-focused therapist who strongly believes that the negative cognitions we have about ourselves start with the trauma we have experienced in the past. I provide psychotherapy and EMDR therapy to those looking to resolve issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use , and emotional dysregulation. I believe for one to connect with others, one should connect with themselves internally. Through a healthy therapeutic alliance, I believe we can collaborate and work together to heal and gain coping strategies that will provide relief from symptoms of concern.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
