SPIRITUALITY
+ THE NERVOUS SYSTEM | I take a mind-body-spirit approach to therapy. I believe we all have the innate capacity for healing, and by following the body's cues, it will show us how to do just that. I like to work with the nervous system: through big-T Traumas a little-t traumas, many of us are not as regulated as we could be. Reasons to work with me may include depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship difficulties, spiritual emergency, insomnia, trauma, autoimmune issues, self-esteem, clarity of purpose, and deepening connection to yourself.

In my graduate work I studied the relationship between childhood trauma and arrested development in adults, the relationship between psychology and
spirituality
and the emotional and social benefits of mindfulness practice.
I enjoy helping clients understand themselves, maybe for the first time. We are presented with so many ideas, thoughts and noise that it can be hard to find our own voice and our own way. I work with clients who are seeking greater self-understanding, connection and empowerment in their lives. I can help you experience more personal clarity and congruence while also experiencing greater richness in life. I've also studied
spirituality
and have found that it has added more more depth to my life and my work as a therapist; I have experience with Buddhism, the Diamond Approach and shamanism.

Too few of us have had support in accessing the nourishment of our own depth. We all hold the innate capacity to know and move from our depth, but sometimes we need help to parse out what on earth depth even means and how to safely relate to it. Together, we'll honor the complex mixture of the external and internal - ranging from family of origin, social locations, cultural experiences, form and formless - that fashion how you relate to yourself and ways you show up in the world. I offer a warm, steadfast space in which to work with trauma, anxiety and depression, life transitions,
spirituality
, creativity, and relationships.

Does it seem like therapists' introductions pose similar questions and offer similar solutions? How do you know if a counselor is right for you? Healing takes place both in the relationship between you and your therapist and in the relationship you have with yourself. I trust and believe that every person holds the wisdom to their own answers for growth. Sometimes we need someone to truly listen, support, and witness us along the way. I view counseling as an opportunity to be wholly seen and heard for who you are, be supported in finding your way, and have a companion/guide with you.

Depression, grief, anxiety, death/dying, identity,
spirituality
, and navigating major life changes and other moments that require a bit of patience and a dash of creativity with ourselves are some of my specialty areas.
Finding an authentic way to be ourselves in an incongruent time isn’t easy. Yet I believe that we are all entitled to do just that–to be ourselves in all our messy, creative, unfinished, work-in-progress glory. Creativity, movement, mindfulness, and nature, are all things we may draw on in our work together. I am passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and view all of my work through an intersectional lens. I am also passionate about working with elders, neurodiverse folks, and those grieving a loss or facing a scary health diagnosis. If you’re ready to get started, I’m ready to meet you along the way.

I offer a range of specialty services that generally fall outside the typical categories and tend to use a “whole person” approach to treatment and stabilization, though over the last 10+ years of intensive couple’s and individual work I’ve treated almost everything and welcome all issues large or small, no matter the complexity. I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy as well as Spiritual Emergence Coaching and meditation training for issues where mental health and
spirituality
meet. Lastly, I offer specialty testing to precisely identify problems and diagnoses, then use these to best determine what treatment will be most helpful.

Hola & Hello, a little bit about myself: I am a bilingual Mexican American Latina and a child of immigrant parents. My past work experience has included working with latino women and men in low income communities. Some populations have included single mothers. Currently I am working with first generation latinos struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, imposter syndrome, having been parentified as a child, perfectionism, being the "black sheep" of the family, or generational trauma. Some individuals also include navigating the world being introverted. Introverted or not, all are welcome.

I believe our natural state is health toward which we constantly strive. Sometimes, we encounter situations that interrupt this process. These interferences can occur at any point during our lives, and they sometimes leave us searching for ways to cope. There are many ways to heal, and I engage psychotherapy from a contemplative lens. I specialize in healing through a depth approach whereby I work with clients to uncover the wisdom of their true essence. I use tools such as talk therapy, dream exploration, writing, and the tarot toward this effort. I aim to create a space that welcomes being.

We often seek therapy when we're ready for change and part of our life has become unbalanced. A feeling of discontent, depression, or anxiety may have lasted a lifetime, or may have been initiated by a transitional change, such as loss of a relationship or career, or a yearning to grow beyond where we have been stuck.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
