Anxiety, depression, grief or just feeling stuck are often what leads someone to begin therapy. Your emotional discomfort may be impacting your relationships at home, work or school. You may have tried to improve the situation and are frustrated at not being able to achieve the changes you desire, but change is possible. Having a clear understanding of your issues, and your needs is the first step toward reaching your goals.

Waitlist for new clients
Utilizing Psychodynamic, Feminist-Relational, Contemporary Psychoanalytic, Attachment-based, and Trauma Focused approaches, we'll explore unconscious processes, early experiences, and attachment patterns.
My clients are smart, self-aware people who've been managing a lot on their own for a long time — and they're tired. They want to stop overthinking everything, feel more solid in their relationships, and figure out who they actually are underneath the performance. A lot of them are queer, neurodivergent, or both, and they're done explaining the basics to their therapist. They want someone direct, who notices patterns, and who won't let them stay comfortable when they're ready for something different.

Carl Rogers said, when we accept ourselves as we are, then we can change. Focusing on the individual and their unique capability toward healing is the guiding approach I take in therapy. I work with great curiosity to explore the distractions and negative cycles that may be keeping you stuck. The struggle for clarity is a difficult one to navigate in isolation; together we can look at patterns and behaviors that no longer service you. The therapeutic process is one of finding balance between the emotional and rational, the mind and body and bringing that forward into our lives.

I believe that much of our suffering begins with a lost connection. When we're depressed, we've lost touch with our own vitality, even our own reasons for living. When we're grieving, we've lost an essential part of our world--and, with it, a part of ourselves. When we're operating from a place of shame or fear, we've lost the internal sense of security and belonging that reminds us we're okay. I believe that psychotherapy works by restoring these vital connections--to ourselves, and to the people and pursuits that give our lives meaning--so that we can live our lives more authentically, creatively, and fully.

Schedule online instantly through my website link in my bio! Hi. I'm Jamie. I’m smart, quirky, and a deep feeler. I’ll notice things about you that most people don’t and I’ll point at things that most people won’t. I’ll meet you with a depth of presence that’s rare in this world, and I’ll create lots of space for what’s true for you to emerge. I love models and frames and theories and will share bits and pieces with you that might help you see outside of the cages you feel stuck in. Concerns I work with most often are disordered eating, social anxiety, and sexuality.

My psychoanalytic approach integrates rigorous clinical training with insights gleaned from decades of experience.
I believe our emotional lives—our feelings and memories—serve as vital pathways to our capacity for authentic aliveness. Yet we often struggle to make sense of these experiences and harness them for meaningful change. Core emotions that frequently haunt us—fear, anger, sadness, loneliness—can become powerful openings to a greater sense of meaning when explored, elaborated, and understood within an individual or group therapeutic setting. Through a process of emotional discovery, we can transform what once limited we into sources of wisdom and connection.

If you struggle with mastering your circumstances, they may end up mastering you. This is a reality we all face, but the time and effort required to do so can be overwhelming. My experience is centered around neurodivergent populations who struggle with emotions and executive functioning. I view each client with holistic, person-centered views of a unique and complex individual rather than just a diagnosis. As an abstract thinker, I specialize in helping you tie the pieces together in a new, autonomous and empowering way. I strive to be genuine and collaborative in sessions-- come talk to me about anything, I would love to listen!

There is nothing I enjoy more than helping people improve their lives and relationships; feel less stressed and more content. I take a down-to-earth approach that focuses on your particular needs, desires and goals. Then we come up with a plan for how to enable you to meet your goals. This involves finding out what is blocking you from having the kind of life you want, and taking the steps to overcome those obstacles. Once you understand the source of your difficulties, and have an ally to help you make the necessary changes, anything is possible.

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience.
For those who grew up affirming another's reality rather than being seen, therapy provides the secure base to finally trust your own perceptions. As far as everyone is concern, "you have an amazing life". "You have a partner who "loves you, gives you the world" or maybe "you are lucky to be single". "You can date whomever you like and not have to answer to anyone". But what if your experience of yourself and your life is completely different from what everyone else sees. What if life does not feel so amazing? What if even though you have a partner, you feel as though you are living separate lives; no joy, no intimacy, no sex, just constant bickering? What if you are tired of being alone, tired of the lack of connection? Tired of not having the relationship you desire?

I am a psychodynamic therapist who draws on relational psychoanalysis. In simpler terms, I am deeply interested in you—your history, your relationships, your inner world, and the patterns that have shaped your life. In our work together, we will go beyond learning how to cope and look at how past relationships influence how you feel, behave, and relate now in order to fully understand each part of yourself and create meaningful change. I work with individuals and couples and my approach is always collaborative, paced, and attuned.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
