Hindu Therapists in Boulder, CO
My approach to therapy begins with a deep respect for the resilience and skill that people have when facing hardship. I believe that therapy and healing begins when we create a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space as individuals face their personal journeys. Working within a trauma informed, and culturally responsive framework, I strive to honour the many identities and stories that one may carry and how they may impact the way they move and interact in the world.

I find therapy most potent, important, and meaningful when there is a mix of: compassion, non-judgment, curiosity, and choicefulness.
From my training in Somatic Counseling/Body Psychotherapy, I make use of my own body, and body-based (somatic-) tracking, applied moment-to-moment with clients. Sometimes this may look like noticing the breath, or bringing attention to feelings & sensations, when something—that may have been stowed psychically out-of-sight yet not out-of-reach—shifts.
There are many further toolboxes of somatic (and other!) keys that expand the range, and richness, of what therapy together—beyond talk—can include.

I am dedicated to working with people who want to get at the roots of their emotional distress and personal suffering.
A collaborative relationship is the single most important factor in therapeutic success. This relationship will be the keystone for facilitating your personal growth and understanding of yourself, not just intellectually, but also emotionally. Over time, an internalized healing space forms where you can recover access to parts of your true self. Speaking freely without unnecessary self-censorship may be simple, but it is not easy. I encourage you to try.

I’m David, and I work with men who are tired of shutting down, losing their cool, or feeling like they can’t win. All humans seek happiness and answers to the most personal and vexing questions of self-knowledge, happiness, love, the right way to live, and satisfying, meaningful relationships and work. At the heart of these quests lie enduring philosophical questions. As an APPA-certified Philosophical Counselor, I can help you find means of raising and answering these questions, through conversations and engaged dialogue. Philosophical reflection and study are tools I can share in this process, one I've been engaged in ever since I began the formal study of philosophy, and continued in my teaching, writing, and reflection.

Both myself and most of my clients identify with the intersections of neurodivergence, disability, trauma, moral injury, and the LGBTQ+ community. Healing is a political act and I do not separate how systemic oppression and polycrises impact our capacities to show up for the collective we belong to. Our work towards liberation will find direction through your special joys, curiosities, and hopes and isn't afraid of BIG emotions or the decay that comes before new growth.

You've probably already tried the therapy apps. You're here because you want something different — a therapist who actually specializes in what you're dealing with.
I work with couples and individuals navigating real complexity: high-achieving, mixed-neurotype relationships where one or both partners are autistic or have ADHD, trauma histories that keep showing up in the relationship, the slow drift of emotional disconnection in a committed relationship, or a spiritual life that doesn't fit neatly into conventional therapy.
You may do the work — and still find yourself stuck in the same patterns. That gap is where I work best.

Building a compassionate, trusting relationship with clients is my foremost priority in therapy. I help clients develop strengths, assertiveness, and resiliency to cope with life's challenges while focusing on reorienting beliefs, improving relationships and increasing attunement to thoughts + feelings. I believe that our brains are naturally adaptive and a clear understanding of how your mind works can empower healthy change. That’s why I use a combination of mindfulness, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), self compassion and Gottman Institute's research-based approach.

You know how to show up for everyone else, but therapy is where you finally get to be held, too. As a South Asian therapist, I understand how cultural and intergenerational messages around silence, shame, self-sacrifice, and “keeping the peace” can make it feel unsafe to seek support or speak openly about your pain. You might be navigating attachment wounds, cultural or family expectations, people-pleasing, or feeling overwhelmed in your relationships. Together, we can begin unlearning those harmful messages, reconnect with your voice, and create space for the healing, trust, emotional freedom, and autonomy you deserve.

If OCD or anxiety has taken over too much of your life, you may already know how exhausting it is to live inside constant checking, reassurance seeking, overthinking, avoidance, or intrusive thoughts you cannot shake. You may also struggle with ADHD, insomnia, shame, trauma, depression, relationship stress, hair pulling, or skin picking. These patterns can make you feel trapped even when you understand them. With focused therapy, you can stop organizing your life around fear and begin moving toward steadier ground. Understanding the pattern matters, but real change usually requires practicing a new way of meeting it.

What can a Hindu therapist help with?
Hindu therapists are licensed mental health professionals who are familiar with Hindu beliefs, values, and culture. Like other licensed therapists, Hindu therapists can help with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, and family conflict. However, a therapist who shares your faith may be especially helpful if you want to explore how faith and spirituality impact your life and overall mental health. A Hindu therapist can also support concerns that intersect with religion or culture, such as identity, belonging, intergenerational conflict, marriage expectations, or sexuality.
How does Hindu faith and culture shape the therapy experience?
A therapist who understands Hindu beliefs and cultural practices may be better able to recognize how spirituality, religion, or community expectations impact your life. This shared understanding can help you feel more comfortable and less burdened by the need to explain your background. It may also strengthen the therapeutic alliance, which refers to the working relationship between you and your therapist and is tied to positive therapy outcomes. At the same time, you and your therapist do not need to share the same faith to work together effectively. Many therapists who are not Hindu can still provide culturally responsive care if they approach your beliefs and practices with respect and humility, rather than making assumptions or dismissing the role of faith.
How can a Hindu therapist support family therapy?
Hindu therapy can often include family therapy, which may involve parents, children, or extended family members. These sessions may include discussion of how family expectations, cultural traditions, and religious practices shape family dynamics. For example, a therapist might help a family navigate differing expectations around marriage, caregiving, or participation in religious events. Depending on your family’s preferences, a Hindu therapist may incorporate faith-informed reflection alongside other evidence-based approaches, such as communication skills, emotional regulation strategies, and conflict-resolution techniques.
How might I inquire about a therapist's experience working with Hindu clients?
If faith or cultural background is important to you in therapy, it can be helpful to ask a prospective therapist whether they have experience working with Hindu clients. In initial conversations with potential therapists, you might ask questions such as, “Have you worked with Hindu clients before?” or “How do you approach conversations about faith and cultural identity in therapy?” As sessions begin, it can be helpful to notice how the therapist responds to your concerns. A good therapist should respond with respect, curiosity, and cultural humility. If you feel dismissed, misunderstood, or find yourself having to explain your beliefs or cultural context constantly, it may be worth considering another therapist.
Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Hindu therapists?
The directory of Hindu therapists includes therapists who have shared their faith background in their profiles or therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Hindu clients or communities, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation. Not all therapists choose to disclose this information on their profile, and these individuals would not appear in search results for this reason.
