I believe one of the best parenting decisions one can make is asking for support and giving your child a space to process their challenges thats sets your whole family up for connection and happiness.
Parents seek Play Therapy and Parent Support sessions with me to help their child work through their behavioral challenges and improve their parent-child relationship. Play Therapy sessions help kids to express their feelings in regulated ways, promote self-confidence and autonomy, improve their relationship to themselves and others, support social-emotional learning, and work to embrace your child's natural essence helping them to live a full, authentic, and resilient life. I also offer counseling for Tweens & Teens (ages 11-15) through this complicated point of development, especially now in such a complicated world.

I have a MA in Counseling Psychology and Counseling Education, emphasis on Couples & Family Counseling.
I work with individuals, couples and families to create meaningful & fulfilling relationships, improve connections, address conflict, and increase effective communication patterns. Therapy is an opportunity to learn about yourself and others. During session we will explore past and present experiences to gather information about your strengths, resiliency, and challenges. I offer a direct, creative and compassionate approach and nonjudgemental space to do some difficult, and at times, uncomfortable work. Integrating creativity allows us the chance to be playful as you try on new ways of doing things and have some fun with the process of getting to know a truer you.

I have extensive experience with couples and family counseling.
I have worked with adults and adolescents for 30 years to overcome depression, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship conflicts, ADD, addictions, workplace, and motivation problems. I am a very interactive and solution focused therapist who challenges clients to instigate the change they want to see. I help clients develop skills in approaching discomfort rather than avoiding. Using cognitive strategies, I can help you change negative thinking to positive. I help clients express their healthiest emotions rather than using emotions to defend or manipulate. I encourage mindfulness, exercise, and other self-care skills.

Therapeutic modalities I use may include EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Mindfulness techniques, somatic psychotherapeutic techniques, yoga and breath-work, and addiction treatments that include Motivational Interviewing and transpersonal therapies.
I'm guessing that in many areas of your life you are functioning quite well, even thriving. On the other hand you may be simultaneously experiencing a lack of fulfillment and a feeling of emptiness in another area(s) of your life. Symptoms of this may be anxiety, mood problems (including depression), addiction, problems in relationships or behavioral issues. You can choose the pain of stagnation or the discomfort of growth. If you choose growth, you will experience greater joy, peace, connectedness, and purpose. My purpose is to facilitate your growth and therapy is a powerful tool for your transformation.

I work with depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD and family conflict in addition to dealing with the every day stresses of life.
I work with teens, individuals and couples from a humanistic, somatic, mindfulness based perspective. It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is a guiding force in the healing process and an essential component for clients to more deeply access themselves. In our time together, we will increase awareness around your relationship to self, relationship patterns with others, how you work to notice and process feelings, how you relate to past wounds and trauma and how you regulate through stressful times. Together we will increase your capacity to compassionately trust and come back to yourself over and over again.

I have devoted my career to helping children, adolescents, and adults heal from anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, and loss. I have extensive training in trauma, particularly working with children, adolescents, and families whose lives are affected by physical abuse, sexual abuse, family violence, neglect, bullying, and attachment issues related to adoption. I value the importance of working with the whole family system to heal from trauma, improve mental wellness, and adjust to changes in the family dynamic. My treatment is aimed at strengthening the parent-child relationship, and assessing the strengths and areas of growth within the caregiver/child dyad.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
