I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client, and that by working together we can help you move toward understanding and healing. Your job is to be curious about yourself. Mine is to inspire and assist you in exploring the unknown, uncomfortable, and unfamiliar. I strive to kindly challenge the way people think, and to be challenged myself. I am honored when asked to be present in challenging times, and work to balance holding room for discomfort while helping you discover how to move forward. My ultimate goal is to help you heal by building upon our respect, honesty, and mindfulness.

There are times in our lives, some longer than others, that can feel so painful and fragmented that we would do anything to go around, above, or below the pain; anything but through it. Emotional pain, and the impulse to avoid it, are not wrong. This distress is precisely what is needed for transformation to occur. A motivation to change and a supportive therapist provide the means for this journey.

Is your trauma making it difficult for you to feel stable in your life and relationships? Do you and your partner trigger each other's wounds and feel that it isn't safe to talk about difficult topics as they come up? Perhaps you know communication is difficult in your relationship but you still haven't uncovered the root issues. Trauma shatters us at the core of our being. It can feel so painful to watch the pain that someone inflicted on us destroy the things that matter most to us in life. Your pain doesn't have to rob you of joy and connection. It takes courage to heal, and I am here to support you through this healing process.

"Without therapists, we are very unreliable narrators of our own stories" (Russian Doll, 2019). In it's simplest form this is the goal for talk-therapy: sharing your life and having someone listen who might even be skilled enough to help narrate your very own unique story. As a clinician, my goal is to walk alongside you and support you to remove self, familial and societal limitations that are preventing you from living an effective and fulfilled life. My approach blends both Western and Eastern Psychology; I integrate mindfulness and meditation into my sessions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
