Over the last 25 years I have been granted the opportunity to work with amazing individuals,
couples
and families who were searching for well-being. As we attempt to balance our personal and professional lives it is so very important to have a supportive and nurturing guide. I specialize in working with those living with anxiety (generalized, social, sports performance), depression, substance use disorders, traumatic brain injury, grief, loss and end of life evolution. Those I have worked with say I am caring, compassionate, open-minded and that I am able to create an inclusive and safe environment for growth and reflection.

I support
couples
in rediscovering their connection and closeness.
Relationships are not easy. I understand how difficult it is to feel disconnected from the one you most desire to feel close to. Sharing your concerns with your
partner
can feel vulnerable, yet avoiding the conversation causes people to drift further and further apart. These are really hard, confusing, and lonely places to be in, and it is especially hard to navigate these rough waters alone. It is also true that many people struggle to have a healthy relationships with ourself.

I offer individual, group and
couples
sessions.
I believe mental health is about living in the present, healing the past and identifying and moving towards a whole life. Many of the clients I see are facing a dilemna of some sort; a potential marriage, divorce, re-marriage, change in career, a family member dying, or a current trauma, or a past trauma that has re-surfaced. I also treat infidelity including pornography usage interfering with intimacy. I have written the book Letters To A Sex Addict: The Journey Through Grief and Betrayal. This book is powerful for anyone experiencing infidelity and is great with raising empathy for someone who has strayed.

I specialize in working with adult clients who deal with attachment issues, depression, trauma, anger, anxiety, grief/loss, and
relationship
issues.
Starting an inner journey on a path to self-healing and understanding can seem like a daunting task. It can be confusing, often goes against logic, and opens us up to the very things that caused us to retreat from a full life in the first place. I understand the trepidation that comes from starting on such a journey and the various obstacles that arise during this exploration. This journey does not have to be taken alone.

To me, therapy is about genuine
relationship
. We let ourselves be felt, seen, and remembered home. We grow increasingly curious, daring. We glimpse the possibility that every single part of us is completely lovable and completely workable, and that reclaiming these parts of us will change our lives forever. We might come to therapy to make meaning in a life transition, like illness or emerging adulthood. Or perhaps we're starting to suspect that our most persistent challenges form the medicine only we can offer to the world. In all these explorations,
relationship
is the ground for self-discovery and healing.

Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
