In my experience, it starts at relationship .
Accepting New Clients. Life, what a mysterious and rapidly changing place. Throughout this journey we seem to develop a lens through which we see the world. The lens gives us some sense of safety and consistency. Yet, sometimes this lens does not grow and change with the present moment. Therefore, we may be looking through a lens that no longer allows us to see the present moment for what it truly is. I see therapy as an opportunity to explore oneself and gain greater awareness of how we see and experience the world. Together we can find a lens that allows you to move through the ups and downs of life with presence and clarity.

So, whatever you are facing we can find meaning and purpose in your life and relationships, you don’t have to be alone in the journey to wellbeing. You deserve someone who will share those pains and walk with you in your journey to recovering wellness and living a life of health & purpose.

Whether you are coping with anxiety, depression, life transitions, or relationship issues, I believe therapy can help you find the solutions to be present and move forward in your life. I will work with you to develop a trusting, grounded relationship so you have a safe place to examine what is personally challenging or no longer working in your life. Having a supportive base allows you to develop and successfully practice the skills, abilities, and perspectives that may feel too overwhelming to do so on your own. My hope is for clients to gain a sense of personal empowerment to successfully manage life's challenges.

Each individual has a great potential for change and growth; whether a preschooler learning to label and describe mad or sad feelings, or a teenager developing self-soothing strategies for lonely and sad feelings, or an adult learning ways to communicate what they need from their partner when feeling anxious.
I believe that there is great power in developing a deeper understanding of who you are, your strengths and weakness, and how your brain functions and adapts-and applying this information to develop ways to manage and communicate your emotions and needs to the important people in your life. I have been working with kids, teens, adults and families for the last 15 years, and find it very meaningful and rewarding. I specialize in anxiety, depression, attachment and neurodevelopmental disorders, using cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, solution-oriented and family systems based approaches.

I am a somatic therapist who counsels individuals and couples to honor who they truly are.
Challenges are essential to growth. We all face challenges. The various challenges, crises, traumas we all inevitably encounter can create anxiety, depression, and disconnection. Unfortunately, labels and diagnoses can stop you from seeing that you are okay. As you are. Your felt experiences of hurt, when processed deeply, actually lead to self-discovery. Seeking help doesn’t mean that anything is necessarily wrong. In fact, expertise can guide you through these moments safely. Through somatic healing therapy, individuals and couples will find inner strength to start anew.

In this way, I work with individuals/ couples using the non-verbal frameworks, lenses, and skills with which I am familiar--not to build more boxes, nor just devise more fancy ways to categorize & judge--but rather to open, and explore collaboratively, more facets of what may be going on for you (in terms of YOUR OWN body, mind, spirit, and emotions.
I find therapy most potent, important, and meaningful when there is a mix of: compassion/spaciousness (non-judgment); curiosity/levity (as appropriate); & choicefulness. From my background in Somatic Counseling/Body Psychotherapy, I make use of my own body, and body-based (a.k.a. somatic) tracking, applied moment-to-moment in the room with clients. Sometimes this is as simple as noticing the breath, or bringing attention (and other options) to bear when something shifts. There are also many extensive toolboxes of potential somatic interventions that expand the range, and the richness, of what a session together may include.

I have been through a number of disasters, incl. 2 large fires, 1 earthquake, deaths & my sister's psych hospitalization, & that's helping me to help folks adjust to CVIDS-19. Whether you are suffering from anxiety, depression, anger, grief, or pain, you can be helped via research-based tools. We'll first revisit your positive attributes: your accomplishments, talents, & passions are fuel for growth & change. We humans can re-learn, thankfully.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
