Many of the clients I work with recognize the soul even if they call it something else like spirit or Self. Regardless of what we call it, we often arrive at crossings in life where that core is lost, buried, or suffering. These are painful revelations, with subtle and sometimes disturbing pleas from the soul for a return to adventure, more imagination, trauma sensitivity, exploration of sharing our gifts-and living a more meaningful life. Combining the insights of Jungian psychology with the mapping of the archetypal quest, dream and process work, and Brainspotting ....

My methods are whole-brained, linking both left-brain talk therapy and right brain expressive therapies (Family Constellation work, Hakomi Experiential Therapy, SandPlay, & expressive exercises), CBT and Psych-K core belief work to transform negative beliefs, and EMDR, & BrainSpotting to process traumatic events.
As a Somatic Counselor, I work from an understanding of how our thoughts and emotions are necessarily intertwined with our body - internally with brain wiring and externally through behaviors that communicate when words do not. My focus is challenging emotional states and helping adults, partners, and families resolve what the resulting behaviors may be trying to communicate. Specifically, I work with anxiety/ptsd, depression, anger, health crises/fear of death or abandonment, low self-esteem, and grief. Together we choose methods that feel like a fit to meet your circumstance. Ultimately, the goal is empowerment.

I help people create lasting change, by weaving Internal Family Systems, trauma therapies EMDR and Brainspotting , body-centered and mindfulness skills, Creative/Expressive Arts, Dance Therapy and Neoshamanic practices, during sessions to facilitate healing and integration.
As a seasoned psychotherapist/life coach, I believe in our innate healing potential and guide my clients to unlock their internal wisdom, resilience and resources for healing. Somatic (body-centered), mindfulness-based approaches to holistic coaching and therapy, allow me to integrate my clinical training while tuning into intuition to effectively guide the unfolding healing process of my clients. Trauma-informed, holistic coaching and therapy allows for greater capacity to rewire the brain, which can make the unconscious conscious and shift your automatic reactive patterns and outdated beliefs, helping you to live your best life.

I also use Brainspotting to help clients access unprocessed trauma in their subcortical brain.
I have several passions: 1) I help women struggling with depression and self esteem, especially as they age, to find meaning in their lives. 2) I help parents raise kids who will want to come home for Thanksgiving...and you'll want to see them. 3) I help parents who have made a decision not to work to be full-time stay-at-home parents feel confident and validated in their choice. There is no more important work than successfully raising the next generation. 4) I help seniors dealing with aging issues, depression, and addictions. 5) I help all adults dealing with addictions, depression, and anxiety.

I also pride myself to be educated and trained in the current cutting-edge modalities whether that be BrainSpotting , equine-assisted psychotherapy, attachment based couples therapy or somatic psychotherapy.
I believe mental health is about living in the present, healing the past and identifying and moving towards a whole life. Many of the clients I see are facing a dilemna of some sort; a potential marriage, divorce, re-marriage, change in career, a family member dying, or a current trauma, or a past trauma that has re-surfaced. I also treat infidelity including pornography usage interfering with intimacy. I have written the book Letters To A Sex Addict: The Journey Through Grief and Betrayal. This book is powerful for anyone experiencing infidelity and is great with raising empathy for someone who has strayed.

Brainspotting Therapists

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
