I offer therapy that helps you move forward by understanding what lies beneath what you’re struggling with. Whether you’re facing a life transition, seeking more fulfilling relationships, or wanting steadier resilience, we work together to uncover patterns and create space for new possibilities. With experience in psychodynamic therapy and community mental health, I pay close attention to how inner life and external pressures shape one another, and support you working on both. I trained at Smith College School, renowned for its rigorous clinical program, and hold a PhD in history and social sciences.

Many clients carry a quiet weight, a sense that some part of you is unheard, perhaps even within yourself. I know what it's like to hold it all in until your body speaks for you. My practice bridges Western clinical models with ancient healing wisdom, creating a centered, sacred space where every part of you: mind, body, spirit: is invited to find its voice. As a Chicano, detribalized Indigenous therapist, I help you navigate complex transitions, heal from racial stress and intergenerational trauma, and integrate profound experiences, including psychedelic journeys.

I am a body-based (somatic) trained psychotherapist and integrate client-centered talk therapy in my work. Client-centered therapy is based on the conviction that every person has the innate capacity to find within themselves the solutions to their challenges and the power to self-regulate difficult emotions. The therapist's job is to foster a trusting and honest relationship that helps a client to relax. When relaxed, one naturally becomes more curious and open, which is a pre-condition for moving into a psychological space where positive shifts can occur.

You might be someone who has been through something hard and hasn't quite felt like yourself since. Or maybe you've always known your brain is wired in a way the world doesn't always make room for, and you're exhausted from masking, overcompensating, and falling through the cracks. Either way, you're ready for something to actually change. You want to feel calmer, more in control, and like your daily life isn't such a fight. You're not looking for someone to just nod and listen. You want real tools, a real plan, and someone who genuinely gets it.

Healing isn’t about finding a quick fix or following a "simple" list of do’s and don’ts. It’s about gently rediscovering who you are and building a life that feels authentic. Not flawless, but whole. If you’re looking for a guru with all the answers, you’re in the wrong place (I’d make a terrible cult leader anyway). Real change isn’t about being told what to do. It’s about understanding yourself in a way that makes lasting growth possible. My approach blends directness and warmth, with just enough humor to make the hard stuff manageable. Let’s talk! Please feel free to contact me to discuss my current schedule.

Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling disconnected from their own emotional world. You may have grown up in a family where emotions weren’t talked about, where you had to keep the peace, take care of others, or meet high expectations. You might still carry the pressure to be perfect, productive, or “good,” even if it leaves you exhausted or resentful. You have a hard time knowing what you feel or finding the words to explain it. You may struggle to name your own needs or trust your inner voice. You worry about being misunderstood and notice emotions build up inside until you shut down, overthink, or feel stuck.

Hi and welcome! I’m a licensed clinical psychologist and am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). I am licensed in Colorado and Utah and, as a PSYPACT-authorized psychologist, provide telepsychology services in over 30 states including Texas, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, and many more. I was born and raised in the Midwest, where I learned the best way to deal with problems was by “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.” I still believe that hard work is an integral part of the process, but I’ve also learned that, sometimes, progress only happens when you talk to someone.

When it is time to reach out for counseling support you can feel it well up inside; trying to pretend, hide, or bury the emotion just isn't working anymore. It is a healthy response to have seasons in your life of purging old experiences and memories. Your physical body requires this time of reframing and release as it literally fuels what is trying to move through you next. This potent material cannot emerge when it is blocked or encrusted with old debris that is ready to be honored and removed. Most of us just want to remove it, but our system requires for this material to be acknowledged first, so that it can be released.

You may feel burned out, anxious, untethered—like you’ve lost your sense of self. You’re craving steadiness, clarity, and a way back to feeling like yourself again. Starting therapy takes courage. It can feel overwhelming, unclear, and vulnerable—but you don’t have to do it alone. My role is to make the process feel more manageable, grounded, and hopeful. Together, we’ll find what works for you—your goals, your pace, your values. I work best with adults navigating complex transitions—parenthood, identity shifts, emerging adulthood, illness, grief, or major life changes that leave you feeling uncertain or overwhelmed.

I can provide you with a safe non-judgmental space to be deeply seen and heard. Together we can help you move in the direction of improved health and joy. Survival strategies needed in childhood, arising from our intelligence, are no longer appropriate and can cause unnecessary suffering. These outdated approaches are primarily unconscious. I will help you get to know your patterns of body and mind with an attitude of kindness. This awareness can give you the freedom to choose the direction you want instead of being driven by historical conditioning.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?
Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
