I work warmly and respectfully with clients from a somatically-informed and attachment-based lens, believing strongly in both the wisdom of the body and the ability to heal in relationship.
Relationships create the foundation of our lives throughout our entire existence. In fact, our earliest relationships can impact nearly every future interaction we have. If you have questions, concerns, or curiosities about any of your relationships - with your partner, children, extended family, or friends - working with a therapist specially trained in attachment work can change your life. Finding a therapist who really understands you, and what you are going through, is imperative in attachment work. Find someone who will both deeply support you and gently challenge you when you are on the edge of growth.

I take an attachment-based and trauma informed approach to therapy.
Being a human in the world is both an inherently beautiful and painful process. Grief, loss and trauma shape the ways that we approach our daily lives, and sometimes the pain that accompanies these experiences becomes more than anyone can manage on their own. We develop coping strategies in an effort to safely navigate the world, and occasionally these coping strategies become problematic or no longer work for us. Change can be hard and it can be scary, but it can also be exciting and fulfilling; my hope is to help create space to access the range of experiences that arise through the therapeutic process.

Drawing from psychodynamic and attachment-based theories, I enjoy helping clients understand how past experiences have shaped current beliefs, habits, and patterns.
I specialize in working with queer and trans individuals navigating significant life transitions, relationship conflict, or a harsh inner critic. Through my training in and passions for gender affirming care, sex therapy, healthy relationships, and sexual identity exploration, I welcome all your identities and experiences into the room. If you feel motivated to take steps toward positive change, ready to ask the difficult questions, and even willing to sit in moments of discomfort and uncertainty along the way, we might be a great fit for working together. Don't worry, there will be plenty of laughter along the way too!

I use a relational and attachment-based frame, drawing from a well of tools and techniques that I've trained in and perfected over two decades.
It's time to make a lasting change, to get real and heal. Your life is too important. I help individuals unravel the complex stories of their lives. Life is full of twists and turns that pull us from our center, creating overwhelm and distress. Limiting beliefs picked up from childhood color our responses to loved ones and ourselves. We engage in behaviors that are disconnected from the person we really want to be. This feels awful.

I believe mental health is about living in the present, healing the past and identifying and moving towards a whole life. Many of the clients I see are facing a dilemna of some sort; a potential marriage, divorce, re-marriage, change in career, a family member dying, or a current trauma, or a past trauma that has re-surfaced. I also treat infidelity including pornography usage interfering with intimacy. I have written the book Letters To A Sex Addict: The Journey Through Grief and Betrayal. This book is powerful for anyone experiencing infidelity and is great with raising empathy for someone who has strayed.

Many of my clients come to therapy because they feel disconnected from what they really want, need, and feel. They find themselves having reactions in daily life that feel intense and confusing, and they wonder how painful past experiences might still be impacting them. They might cope with stressors through numbing, staying busy, or disordered eating, and wish for a life that felt more aligned and joyful. I am passionate about supporting motivated clients to get free from limiting patterns and connect deeply to themselves so they can feel more alive, have more choices, and take action on the things that matter most to them.

Is your trauma making it difficult for you to feel stable in your life and relationships? Do you and your partner trigger each other's wounds and feel that it isn't safe to talk about difficult topics as they come up? Perhaps you know communication is difficult in your relationship but you still haven't uncovered the root issues. Trauma shatters us at the core of our being. It can feel so painful to watch the pain that someone inflicted on us destroy the things that matter most to us in life. Your pain doesn't have to rob you of joy and connection. It takes courage to heal, and I am here to support you through this healing process.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
