I am a licensed
marriage
and family therapist in Florida and Colorado and an ACSM certified exercise physiologist.
Mental health conditions that I specialize in treating include major depression, generalized and performance-related anxiety, bipolar, adjustment disorders. Symptoms often appear as disturbances in mood, emotional regulation, thought processes and behavior. Mental and physical health are interconnected where physical health is an integral part to mental health treatment. When physical activity is incorporated into therapeutic treatment, self-efficacy is strengthened. I offer individuals and families a program that combines therapy with an add-on of exercise.

Often the transitions in life offer the biggest opportunities for growth and emotional development - getting married, having children or not being able to have children, ending a
marriage
or partnership, empty nesting and the loss of a loved one.
We all get scared sometimes - scared things will change, scared things won’t change, scared of who we truly are or who we might become. Life can really throw us for a loop. It takes real bravery to face the things that scare us. And only through that bravery can we actually accept ourselves for who we are, what we truly want and what part we’ve had in creating the thing that scares us. Once we can accept this, we can begin to create a life reflecting truth, authenticity and integrity.

I use an integrative approach which can include cognitive techniques as well as working with relationships patterns. I bring my experiences with cancer, parenthood,
marriage
, divorce, life choices, life transitions, and humor to the table.
I believe in plain talk and getting to the root of the issue. To that end, we will name the elephant in the room and then work together to meet the goals that you have for yourself and your mental well being. I've always said that theory and application are two different things. I will not make you fit into a preconceived psyche mold, rather we will plot the therapy course that meets your needs and goals from where you have been to where you are going. The distance between dreams and reality is called action. Take action.

With guidance and support, these tools lead to freedom, joy, the manifestation of your natural talents and gifts, and your true voice. I offer a supportive, compassionate style, and a strong, steady, presence for our work together; I also skillfully and precisely challenge the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns that keep you feeling stuck.

I am a
marriage
and family therapist candidate providing therapy services to both couples and individuals.
As a systemically-trained therapist, I believe that no person is an island. We all have so many people that influence every aspect of our lives, people who have helped shape us to be who we are today. In therapy, I want to hear about you, but I also want to hear about your people. I’m committed to taking the time we need to unravel who you really are. I care about you, and I care about what is weighing you down. In therapy, we will carefully unwrap painful memories, brave new ways of thinking, and spend some of the time laughing and connecting as human beings.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
