I offer humor, warmth, and genuine curiosity as we develop a
relationship
- which I believe to be the most important aspect of therapy.
All youth, adolescents, and emerging adults deserve a safe, nonjudgmental space to be truly heard. My goal is to provide a space where you can express yourself authentically in order to heal, grow, and find the confidence to work through life’s difficult challenges. I have over 16 years of experience providing therapy and interventions with youth and young adults. My extensive experience in school social work has given me the opportunity to better understand the social, behavioral, and emotional experiences that young people navigate each day.

couples
,
relationship
issues, life transitions, multicultural concerns, members of LGBTQIA+ communities, and polyamorous individuals,
couples
, and families.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client, and that by working together we can help you move toward understanding and healing. Your job is to be curious about yourself. Mine is to inspire and assist you in exploring the unknown, uncomfortable, and unfamiliar. I strive to kindly challenge the way people think, and to be challenged myself. I am honored when asked to be present in challenging times, and work to balance holding room for discomfort while helping you discover how to move forward. My ultimate goal is to help you heal by building upon our respect, honesty, and mindfulness.

I offer counseling for: individuals &
couples
, focused on: relationships, life transitions, grief, loss, and trauma resolution.
Relationships create the foundation of our lives throughout our entire existence. In fact, our earliest relationships can impact nearly every future interaction we have. If you have questions, concerns, or curiosities about any of your relationships - with your
partner
, children, extended family, or friends - working with a therapist specially trained in attachment work can change your life. Finding a therapist who really understands you, and what you are going through, is imperative in attachment work. Find someone who will both deeply support you and gently challenge you when you are on the edge of growth.

I have a background in working with addictions, grief, anxiety, depression, self neglect, and abandonment issues. We will focus on self-care, life transitions, self-expression, and support for an abundant life. I especially like working with people where they feel stuck and unable to move forward. My overall approach involves helping people move from the spirit of seriousness to the spirit of play.

One of my gifts is being able to see a person’s light even when they cannot see it themselves. If you find yourself blocked from your own inner-wisdom and light, I’m here to help. Perhaps you find yourself overwhelmed by trauma, grief, hurt, or other challenging life experiences. Perhaps you find your blocks manifesting as depression, anxiety, disordered eating, body image struggles, disconnection from others and yourself, or
relationship
issues. Perhaps you find yourself asking, “Isn’t life supposed to be more beautiful and free than this?”

SPIRITUALITY + THE NERVOUS SYSTEM | I take a mind-body-spirit approach to therapy. I believe we all have the innate capacity for healing, and by following the body's cues, it will show us how to do just that. I like to work with the nervous system: through big-T Traumas a little-t traumas, many of us are not as regulated as we could be. Reasons to work with me may include depression, anxiety, addiction,
relationship
difficulties, spiritual emergency, insomnia, trauma, autoimmune issues, self-esteem, clarity of purpose, and deepening connection to yourself.

couples
, CEO's, the unemployed, teachers, athletes, writers and returning veterans.
"I have not met a more wholehearted counselor than Dr. Horowitz in 40 years of working with so many," wrote author Stephen Levine. Your courageous reach for help is the first, hardest step. I have been through a number of disasters, incl. 2 large fires, 1 earthquake, deaths & my sister's psych hospitalization, & that's helping me to help folks adjust to CVIDS-19. Whether you are suffering from anxiety, depression, anger, grief, or pain, you can be helped via research-based tools. We'll first revisit your positive attributes: your accomplishments, talents, & passions are fuel for growth & change. We humans can re-learn, thankfully.

I specialize in relationships - I work with individual clients and with
couples
to improve their relationships and break toxic patterns.
**I am taking new online clients* Hello - I help women break free from manipulative relationships. We can feel so trapped by toxic coaches, bosses, partners and family members. Many times these people appear to be great, fantastic people and the toxicity is hidden so we feel at fault; we end up feeling crazy. You are going to learn to recognize your own needs and feelings. You will see what behaviors are OK and which ones are abusive. You will forgive yourself for your choices and participation. And you will see that you are not crazy. Your inner voice is correct; your compass points to true North; you will find a way forward.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
