Does your child have worries and fears, social anxiety, or reluctance being away from you? Do you or your child experience intrusive anxious thoughts or engage in ritualistic behaviors? Do you worry too much or avoid situations that make you uncomfortable? Anxiety is very common in children, teens, and adults. Two out of ten children experience anxiety that is significant enough to interfere with their lives. Exposure therapy, a type of CBT, has been shown to be the most effective therapy for anxiety. Learning and practicing mindfulness skills can also be very helpful for children, teens, and adults with anxiety.

Do your emotions seem to overwhelm and guide your day-to-day interactions? Are your relationships with others stressful and unfulfilling? These can be debilitating issues that can hinder our ability to move through life with ease, serenity, and peace. Seeking counseling is an incredibly brave
act
: we live in a high pressure world that often makes it hard to ask for the help that we need and deserve to receive.
Hello! I'm so glad you found me! I am a seasoned counselor specializing in complex trauma - I generally see clients that are seeking treatment to address ongoing issues related to traumatic or chronically stressful experiences but I also work with individuals that are in need of support for depression, anxiety, and management of the stress that comes with living life day-to-day. I believe that there is no one blueprint for wellness and the experience of therapy should reflect that. Counseling should not be a rigid process - it can be silly, structured, serious, or something different every time.

We are starving to discover the truth, to show the world who we really are, and we need to have our truth held with compassion. We all want to experience being fully seen. We want to feel connected to others. Sadly, many of us don’t often experience being seen in a non-judgmental light. My strength as a therapist is in my capacity to recognize your preciousness and your capacity for wholeness, while helping you to align with your truth. I work with individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, and groups to heal past wounds and evolve out of patterns of self-sabotage.

I see therapy not as the means to fix a broken self, but a process of getting to know and accept your whole self. Through that process of self-discovery, exploring your relationship with habitual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Learning to reframe the potential in challenges, obstacles and fears. Creating space to practice being curious about yourself with less judgement, being a supportive friend to yourself, acknowledge the wisdom of your experience and honor your core values. Ultimately, through the practice of a more open awareness, welcoming a truer sense of who you are and a more meaningful connection to life.

As a psychotherapist with 28 years of experience, I approach therapy from an empathic relational orientation. It is very important my clients feel heard and validated with a sense of security as they explore their experiences of both suffering and success. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidenced based psychotherapy treatment to help improve communication with others, reduce fears and phobias, interrupt thoughts that lead to addictive and other self destructive behaviors, improve self esteem and change negative thought patterns.

I am a trauma-focused therapist who strongly believes that the negative cognitions we have about ourselves start with the trauma we have experienced in the past. I provide psychotherapy and EMDR therapy to those looking to resolve issues related to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, and emotional dysregulation. I believe for one to connect with others, one should connect with themselves internally. Through a healthy therapeutic alliance, I believe we can collaborate and work together to heal and gain coping strategies that will provide relief from symptoms of concern.

From navigating relationships, careers, identity, politics, culture; adulting is no small task for a person of any age..... let alone navigating overwhelming emotions, eating, sleeping and trauma on top of the energy it takes to get by on a daily basis. Some part of your life maybe feels elusive and takes a lot of extra energy...like being able to stay in relationships, be at peace in your body or satisfied with how you present yourself to the world. Therapy can be a helpful place to sort through all the messages that are unhelpful and get clear on what your real needs are.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
