As a certified marriage and family therapist and relationship coach focusing on women empowerment whether they seek individual or couples therapy. My clients are successful, intelligent, conscientious women who hold themselves to high standards. Intimate relationship is challenging. It's tough to get through the week without hurt feelings, upsets, or disagreement. They want to make things work. It feels like nothing ever changes. They feel powerless, unhappy, and unfulfilled. I can help even if their partner is not on board.

My methods are whole-brained, linking both left-brain talk therapy and right brain expressive therapies ( Family Constellation work, Hakomi Experiential Therapy, SandPlay, & expressive exercises), CBT and Psych-K core belief work to transform negative beliefs, and EMDR, & BrainSpotting to process traumatic events.
As a Somatic Counselor, I work from an understanding of how our thoughts and emotions are necessarily intertwined with our body - internally with brain wiring and externally through behaviors that communicate when words do not. My focus is challenging emotional states and helping adults, partners, and families resolve what the resulting behaviors may be trying to communicate. Specifically, I work with anxiety/ptsd, depression, anger, health crises/fear of death or abandonment, low self-esteem, and grief. Together we choose methods that feel like a fit to meet your circumstance. Ultimately, the goal is empowerment.

I believe mental health is about living in the present, healing the past and identifying and moving towards a whole life. Many of the clients I see are facing a dilemna of some sort; a potential marriage, divorce, re-marriage, change in career, a family member dying, or a current trauma, or a past trauma that has re-surfaced. I also treat infidelity including pornography usage interfering with intimacy. I have written the book Letters To A Sex Addict: The Journey Through Grief and Betrayal. This book is powerful for anyone experiencing infidelity and is great with raising empathy for someone who has strayed.

I am trained in trauma-informed, strengths-based therapeutic modalities, including Internal Family Systems therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and EMDR therapy.
Welcome! I am a somatic psychotherapist who believes that the foundation for growth and lasting change involves developing a loving and nurturing relationship with all parts of ourselves, especially the parts that we tend to feel the most afraid of and resistant toward. When we begin to embrace our present experience and listen to the deeper wisdom inside, we gradually and naturally transform into the most empowered versions of ourselves. In this way, we can learn to use moments of darkness and suffering as a path to light and freedom.

The therapy process can help you to develop a deeper connection to your true feelings, more authentic communication, healthier and more satisfying relationships, a clearer path through life, and a sense of being more "yourself". I take an eclectic approach, using talk therapy, dreamwork/play, creative expression, insight into family relationships, and exploring beliefs developed in childhood and the ways that they influence your current patterns and choices.

I have devoted my career to helping children, adolescents, and adults heal from anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, and loss. I have extensive training in trauma, particularly working with children, adolescents, and families whose lives are affected by physical abuse, sexual abuse, family violence, neglect, bullying, and attachment issues related to adoption. I value the importance of working with the whole family system to heal from trauma, improve mental wellness, and adjust to changes in the family dynamic. My treatment is aimed at strengthening the parent-child relationship, and assessing the strengths and areas of growth within the caregiver/child dyad.

There are times where life presents tremendous challenges that can feel and seem insurmountable. Childhood wounding, insecure attachment, abuse, discrimination, divorce/separations, existential crisis, and transition to motherhood can be overwhelming. Often our family , friends, and larger community, if we are connected to them, do not know to help or are compromised themselves and cannot. This is when the proverbial "sh*t hits the fan." In some larger way, we might be able to see what is happening as an opportunity to grow, but what has happened or is happening is so painful we need strong support to get through and grow from it.

I believe one of the best parenting decisions one can make is asking for support and giving your child a space to process their challenges thats sets your whole family up for connection and happiness.
Parents seek Play Therapy and Parent Support sessions with me to help their child work through their behavioral challenges and improve their parent-child relationship. Play Therapy sessions help kids to express their feelings in regulated ways, promote self-confidence and autonomy, improve their relationship to themselves and others, support social-emotional learning, and work to embrace your child's natural essence helping them to live a full, authentic, and resilient life. I also offer counseling for Tweens & Teens (ages 11-15) through this complicated point of development, especially now in such a complicated world.

Together, we will work with the wisdom of the body and the mind through mindfulness, neurobiology, grief-work, self-compassion training, and internal family systems.
Accepting new clients Jan 2023. I work with people who have experienced trauma, attachment wounds, low self-worth, perfectionism, stress, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or problems feeling present. You might struggle with boundaries, enjoying spending time on hobbies, or negative self-talk. Maybe you use food, alcohol, cannabis, exercise, or Netflix as a way to escape the present moment. You crave closeness with others, but also fear it. I understand that you want a safe space to explore creating a more meaningful life at your own pace.

I have raised a family and have personal and professional experience with single parenting, step families and adoption.
My approach is direct, supportive and caring. I believe that effective psychotherapy is based upon mutual curiosity and genuineness in discovering how to meet life’s challenges - including family issues, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. The path through these difficulties includes facing them with humor, gentleness and bravery. The fruition of this exploration is a greater awareness of self and an appreciation of others.

I work with individuals and families working to improve their communication, healthy boundaries, and resilience. Often when one member of a family is struggling with an identity challenge or an acute episode, others in the family system are hard pressed to know how to be supportive in a way that is honoring to all. We all want to feel validated in our uniqueness and loved through our challenges. My goal is to help individuals connect with their deep inner resources to lead richer, more satisfying lives.

I am a spouse and a father, and when I am not in the office I like to cook and explore new foods, paddle board, and go on adventures with my family .
I consider my role as a psychologist to be one of great privilege. As I journey with others through the issues that have brought them to therapy, I often feel invited into sacred spaces, filled with suffering, pain, confusion, or one’s deepest longings of the heart. It is in these sacred spaces that there is also opportunity for change, for hope, for healing. My hope is that through the process of psychotherapy people will come to experience greater freedom and vitality, deeper capacities for love and creativity, and more meaningful and redemptive relationships.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
