However, I've shifted my focus to providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) after my own struggles with falling and staying asleep.
If you are struggling to fall asleep, stay asleep, or experiencing poor quality sleep, CBT-I has the potential to help you reclaim your sleep - often with less effort than you've most likely already been putting in. I look forward to hearing from you and working together to help you become a good sleeper again.

Life often brings seasons of change - some expected, others sudden - that can stir feelings of uncertainty, stress, or sadness. Facing health concerns or moving through major transitions can feel overwhelming at times. In these moments, therapy becomes a place to pause, regain balance, and discover new ways of coping, healing, and moving forward with resilience.

My wife and I are Licensed Clinical Social Workers and have been practicing clinical therapy for five years. A pillar of our 45-year journey together has been the experimentation and practice of mental, philosophical, spiritual, and evidence based curriculum for positive personal evolution. I believe we are our own experiments. To me, that is a primary function of therapy; identifying and experimenting with what does or does not work for improving the quality of life for ourselves and each varied individual. Being in my sixties allows me to draw on an abundance of experience with family, career, and social environments to draw from.

You might be feeling stuck, uncertain, or overwhelmed—like life has shifted and you’re not sure how to keep up. I know how heavy it can feel to carry that weight alone. The truth is, men in particular are facing a mental health crisis right now: they die by suicide nearly four times more often than women, yet are far less likely to seek help. Too many suffer in silence because of stigma, cultural expectations, or the pressure to appear strong. I’ve been drawn to this work because I’ve seen the cost of that silence, and I believe therapy should be a place where you don’t have to pretend, where you can finally exhale and be yourself.

Do you ever feel like you spiral over random thoughts that seem to be out of control? Perhaps it feels like your insecurities are getting in the way of you enjoying life? Do you often wonder if things from your childhood are affecting the way you're living your life? Is the anxiety, over-thinking, and constant thoughts getting to you? If so, you are not alone. Anxiety is one of the most common disorders in the US. And different life experiences, such as childhood trauma, can make anxiety worse. Not addressing your anxiety and/or trauma can make your life seem smaller and smaller. Life does not have to be this hard. There is hope!

The world has a way of teaching us to feel like we aren't good enough, like we're worthless, and like we're alone, but I'm here to help you unlearn those feelings. Hi, friend. I'm Jaelin (she/her), a disabled, AuDHD, queer trans-woman, and I have drawn on a combination of life experience and clinical expertise to create a space of curiosity, healing, and unconditional positive regard: the School of Unlearning, Psychotherapy. Our goal is to build a set of coping skills that enables you to separate identity from trauma, navigate the world with more self-compassion, and rewire your neural pathways.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
