I specialize in psychotherapy and EMDR/
EFT
for women to address/resolve trauma associated with: Domestic Violence, interpersonal coercion, abuse, victimization; crime victim trauma; anxiety & depression; couple relationships; African-American/multicultural issues; personal development; stress & anger management; work-related issues & mediation.
I view psychotherapy as a process of exploration and affirmation of one's life path, including the experiences and wisdom gained along this journey. This is just the beginning point for the psychotherapeutic process of healing and identifying one's pathway to continue the journey of personal growth, transformation and achieving balance (mind, body & Spirit).
I see my role as a therapist as that of a witness and source of support and knowledge, joining with you to help facilitate the individual process of developing a deeper sense of self-awareness, achieving personal growth and transformation: to create the life you want.

As a Certified
Emotionally Focused
Couple Therapist, I will help you build a stronger and closer relationship.
Relationships can be hard work, but so worth the effort. I'm here to help you reconnect and repair with the love of your life. As a couples therapy specialist, I see couples go from discouraged to hopeful all the time. Does this sound like you? "I feel so disconnected, when the goal was to be close. We end up arguing when we meant to have fun and feel loved. We aren't having sex much anymore, when that used to be one of the favorite parts of our relationship. I try to make them happy, only to feel like I'm failing." Even though it might feel scary or daunting, don’t wait to get help while the hurts pile up and the distance grows.

I use a combination of Narrative and
Emotionally Focused
Therapies, however, I tailor my approach based on the clients' needs.
“How can I reconnect intimately with my partner?” “How do we navigate having different levels of sexual desire?” “How do we rebuild trust after it’s been broken?” “Who am I and what does that mean?” These are all questions I have heard many iterations of in my therapy office, so if you’ve found yourself asking some of these same questions, you’re not alone. Whether you're tackling rebuilding trust, cultivating intimacy, exploring sexuality, deconstructing harmful self-narratives, or developing communication skills, it is an honor to walk alongside you during this journey, as you invest in yourself and your relationships.

I utilize tenets of narrative,
emotionally focused
, intersectional feminist, and liberation psychology practices.
As relational beings, the experience of feeling connected to our authentic self and that of others is essential to wellness. Investigating the multi-layered stories that are told about us, that often inform how we view ourselves, is critical to finding alternative ways of stepping into the power of our truths. Exploring, and interrogating, the messages that are intimately tied to culture, ancestry, and community can offer wisdom necessary in addressing problems in living folks experience. Whether seeking individual, relational, or family therapy, I believe the healing journey is inherently a collective one.

I'm, to the utmost, passionate about helping people. I foster a safe environment that's entirely non-judgmental where you can feel free to express yourself. I truly believe that a healthy counseling relationship is instrumental in promoting growth and happiness.

I utilize
emotionally focused
, cognitive behavioral, person-centered and humor in addressing things such as communication, identity, anxiety/depression, grief, and much more.
As a queer BIPOC individual, my passion is working with other individuals, relationships, and family systems of the queer and or BIPOC community. If you grew up in a culture that viewed mental health as taboo, you may be feeling alone and hopeless. Know that you are not alone in your journey. I believe that people and relationships can thrive if given the proper support, nourishment, and environment. We are all given the same tools, but how helpful can it be if we were never taught how to use them? With some direction, non-judgement, and unconditional positive regard I believe people are capable of incredible things.

Helping people build strong relationships and connections to others is my driving force. With these bonds, we can tackle anything. I want to dismantle the beliefs that independence and self-management is the best way to work through problems. It is through connecting with others, building emotional safety, and feeling secure in relationships, can we overcome and thrive. I want to help as many people as I can experience the safety and security that comes from being vulnerable and authentic. I want my clients to know they don't have to walk this life alone or hide parts of themselves to be loved and accepted. Relief is attainable!

Relationships get stuck in cycles and patterns. They can feel oppressive, bland, limiting or severe. Sometimes the closest relationships are filled with pain and distance. You might be having the same conversation over and over again without any resolution. It’s becoming disappointingly predictable. The bliss of being together is missing, and you’re not sure anymore if you and your partner are really there for each other. Everything is feeling dull and challenging, instead of bright and exciting.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
