As a parent of a
child
who is struggling, it is often hard to figure out how to best support them. You are constantly wondering what can I do to help them feel better? It may feel like you have tried everything, that nothing seems to work and that you are going through this alone. I look forward to the opportunity to support not only your
child
, but also yourself and your whole family with the struggles that you are experiencing. My approach to therapy involves a humanistic understanding of people, where I view clients as whole, understanding all of the systems they are apart of, rather than just the person who shows up in the room.

children
and families, and all, in re-adjusting our lives, I offer compassionate support to individuals of all ages.
I work from a strength and client-based perspective. In addition to working from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach, I use CBT, EMDR techniques, and encourage clients to use their own spiritual beliefs and values in working with their relationship, wellness and adjustment issues. I value clients who are willing to be genuine and to work towards their own goals in their personal journey and relationships.

In order to assist both
children
and their parents in self discovery, I utilize both traditional talk therapy techniques as well as creative arts and play therapy interventions.
Due to Covid and some personal life changes, I will be offering online sessions only at this time. Being a parent is an incredibly overwhelming and rewarding role and in the same breath, sometimes it is not very easy to be kid trying to communicate with your parent either. Subscribing to the notion that no one
child
or family can "fit" into a box, I encourage confidence in individuality and assisting
children
and families in exploring their shared values and finding a way to use their "differences" as strengths. In family therapy, I strive to increase acceptance, understanding, and enjoyment in the family dynamic.

When viewing therapy as a journey, clients are the one who take the steps and therapists are there to walk alongside them. While on their own journeys,
children
, adolescents and young adults are striving to develop their distinct sense of self and establish meaningful relationships with those around them. Supporting your
child
/teen comes with its own set of stressors that can lead you to feel unsure of what to do next. I believe that our childhood experiences impact how we connect and relate with others as adults. Trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, grief and other life stressors can deeply impact how we make meaning.

The second area of specialty is re-building the parent-
child
relationship.
My belief is that when you build a strong alliance with your therapist, you create a really positive experience for the therapeutic process. I strive to create a safe positive place for adolescents to share their thoughts and feelings and learn new ways to work with conflict and setbacks they might be facing right now. Adolescents are having a hard time with all of the social distancing requirements and remote learning this often leads to anxiety, depression, and substance use. which then results in not completing school work. This is a hard time for families and it truly does affect the whole family.

I specialize in working with
children
using play therapy, as my primary approach, while operating through a family systems, and attachment based lens.
We are both wounded and healed in relationship. Taking the step to enter into counseling takes great courage and I'm honored you would consider taking this journey with me. I thrive in working with teens,
children
, parents and women around disordered eating, anxiety, body image issues, and trauma, in order to uncover one's most true potential, healing and wholeness. When working with parents, I often find myself helping them discover the ways their own wounds potentially have impacted their parenting struggles.

My passion is working with families and
children
to help them in creating the best relationship possible.
Children
often do not have the words to tell us when things are not going well for them, instead, they often show us their feelings through challenging behaviors. I love helping parents understand their
child
's behavior and helping
children
find ways to cope when things are tough. I know parenting is not always easy. In addition to raising my own
children
, I have worked with
children
in a variety of settings including daycare and school. I truly enjoy helping parents and
children
learn to communicate and connect.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
