Individual and family sessions are designed using integrated approaches to create a collaborative, individualized, and tailored experience to reach the goals of the family and the
adolescent
.
Hello and welcome. My passion is working with adolescents, young adults, and the families who support them. My connection with adolescents is built on trust, safety, comfort, respect, and understanding, which allows me to create relationships with teens that can be hard fought with other adults. Speaking what can seem to be a foreign language and creating a bridge to families through the translation of that language brings purpose to my work. I have over twelve years of experience working with adolescents and families in different capacities and have dedicated my career to working exclusively with this population.

Whether you are just starting your
teen
years or entering into your 30’s, my goal for clients is to be heard and seen in a non-judgmental setting.
I specialize in helping pre-teens, teens and young adults learn to understand who they are and how to navigate in this crazy complicated world we currently live in. There is so much going on…often times we don’t even know where to start. The first step is finding a safe place to be vulnerable and explore our feelings and relationships with raw curiosity. It is at this place where our authenticity occurs, healing starts, and where shifts can emerge. I believe learning to be present and sitting with our emotions creates a space to be curious about what may be getting in the way of a happier, fuller life.

Is your
teen
struggling with substance use, school, or mood issues? Are you struggling to help your
teen
or yourself as an adult cope with fears of failure, anxiety, and defeat? Or perhaps you or your family are dealing with frequent stress, sadness or lack of communication? Trying to deal with these societal and life pressures can be difficult and emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting, especially for kids and teens. It is important to remember that is ok to ask for help and support for yourself, child, or family because you are not alone in this.

When viewing therapy as a journey, clients are the one who take the steps and therapists are there to walk alongside them. While on their own journeys, children, adolescents and young adults are striving to develop their distinct sense of self and establish meaningful relationships with those around them. Supporting your child/
teen
comes with its own set of stressors that can lead you to feel unsure of what to do next. I believe that our childhood experiences impact how we connect and relate with others as adults. Trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, grief and other life stressors can deeply impact how we make meaning.

I have extensive training and experience helping clients who are dealing with relationship/intimacy issues; addictions; depression and anxiety; grief and loss; communication difficulties; trauma and PTSD; child/
adolescent
issues and divorce.
With 25 years in clinical practice, I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of psychotherapy to improve self confidence and self esteem, to develop more fulfilling relationships and to set one's life course in a positive direction for the future. I try to not only help my clients find relief from bothersome symptoms but also to help get to the root of the problem that has brought them into therapy. In this way the therapy has a deeper and longer-lasting effect as clients learn how to free themselves from problematic patterns from the past and live more fully in the present.

*NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME* Many kids and adults struggle in the traditional model of talk therapy. Trauma, anxiety and depression can sometimes make connecting with a therapist intimidating and exhausting. I offer animal-assisted therapy, mindfulness practices, and expressive arts to individuals who have tried it all and have been frustrated with their results or maybe just desire the comfort of an animal during sessions. My warm, compassionate, collaborative, and easy-going approach allows you to relax, trust, and feel safe enough to explore the difficult aspects of your life so healing can begin.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
