I realize it can add stress to a clients life to set goals that might be too difficult so I allow them to discover goals that seem important to them.
Hi there, I'm Arlene Holt, LPC . I believe I bring a warmth to the counseling session. I built trust by non judgmental listening. While this is my nature, I can also be direct with a client and tell them what I am seeing in them if that is what I believe is necessary to move them forward in their journey for change. I follow Rogerian theory which can also be called narrative, allowing the client to lead the direction of the session. I am also trained in EMDR which has been proven to relieve the stress associated with traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences.

In-person option coming Fall 2025! With 15 years of experience in and around the mental health sphere, I've had the opportunity to meet and help a wide variety of genuinely amazing and awesome people navigate their lives in a way that works better for them. I'm of the belief that talking with someone can help anyone and therapy or coaching are often the venues in which to do that - you don't have to be falling apart to need a listening ear or a bit of a guide and I love helping people unpack the beliefs that aren't working for them and find the things that make them feel untethered and amazing.

I work best with clients who are looking for an informal, supportive setting where they can learn skills that help them manage their lives more effectively, whether the problem is big feelings, a disconnect in relationships with those close to you, ADHD symptoms, trouble with boundaries and assertiveness, or anger and controlling behavior--anything that makes you feel like you've somehow gotten away from the person you'd like to be.
My job isn't to tell you what to do, but rather to help you identify what's important to you and help you figure out how to get there. I have training in CBT, DBT, ACT, and the Gottman Method of couples therapy, and I use them to validate your experience and empower you to cope with what's bothering you.

I work with neurodivergent folks ( ADHD, autism, dyslexia, deep feelers, sensory-sensitive souls) who are tired of pretending and ready for therapy that actually fits.
We might talk it out, track your nervous system, get creative, or just sit with the mess. I blend real conversation, brain science, somatic (body-based) tools, and lived neurodivergent experience to help you build insight, clarity, self-trust. This leads to the ability to regulate in the highs AND lows —without forcing your brain to be something it’s not.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
