Many of the strategies I use are based in
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy.
Struggling with sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, erection, ejaculation or overall confidence and comfort with sex is common. You are not alone, and overcoming these issues is possible. These struggles can be related to anxiety, discomfort with our bodies or pleasure, or previous negative sexual experiences. We often feel shame or embarrassment when talking about sex, even with our romantic and sexual partners. I offer an authentic, accepting and collaborative space for individuals who are seeking therapy to work through some of these issues.

I help people find
acceptance
and value in themselves so they can better navigate this enormous thing called life.
Hello! My name is Sarah. I work with individuals 16 and older with diverse backgrounds and identities looking to gain support in managing anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I also have a particular interest in working with women and BIPOC populations. We will engage in activities that increase awareness and calm the body such as trauma-informed visualizations, meditation, journaling, and gratitude. So in addition to exploring your thoughts, behaviors, and patterns, we will also have a focus on connecting to the body.

Other therapeutic techniques commonly used in session are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectable Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy,
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Traveling through your journey in life is a powerful experience with unexpected bumps in the road, often creating feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt. When we experience thoughts and feelings that are uncomfortable such as depression, anxiety, stress, and changes in mood, we tend to also feel it physically in our bodies through lethargy, pain, and changes in sleep and weight. Inversely, what we put in our bodies often times impacts how we feel emotionally, without often times even knowing it. Using a mind-body therapeutic approach allows you to identify skills for a means of transformation in your emotional and physical life.

My work also includes mindfulness,
acceptance
and commitment therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and have been practicing for over 20 years. In my experience, those seeking therapy are looking for answers for how better to navigate their lives to ease emotional pain and find fulfillment within their lives. I believe that life's hurts primarily occur in relation to others and that healing often comes through relationship as well, sometimes by seeking a professional's guidance. You may discover that having someone walk alongside you in your journey for a time, acting as a witness to your stories, is an invaluable gift.

I theoretical application is
ACT
and EMDR.
Sometimes life throws us a curveball. We find ourselves feeling disconnected from the people and things that are important to us. Its like we are unable to live fully. Sometimes our problems become the only thing that we can focus on, and the life we want to live seems a distant dream. What if there was a way to get unstuck from your problems and dark thoughts, and get back into your life? Whatever weight you are carrying, these struggles do not have to become your story.

I have training in CBT, DBT,
ACT
, and the Gottman Method of couples therapy, and I use them to validate your experience and empower you to cope with what's bothering you.
I work best with clients who are looking for an informal, supportive setting where they can learn skills that help them manage their lives more effectively, whether the problem is big feelings, a disconnect in relationships with those close to you, ADHD symptoms, trouble with boundaries and assertiveness, or anger and controlling behavior--anything that makes you feel like you've somehow gotten away from the person you'd like to be.

ACT
(
acceptance
and commitment therapy) addresses the rigid thoughts and behaviors which can limit us.
My clients tend to be people who march to the beat of their own drum. They know what it’s like to feel misunderstood, and some might go as far as to consider themselves “black sheep” or even outcasts. My approach to counseling involves embracing your unique identity and letting go of expectations others may have put onto you. Whether you are working through depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, or uncertainty, I want to help you become your most authentic self.

Trying to find the right therapist shouldn’t be difficult or intimidating. I have always felt finding a therapist is like dating, but the therapist doesn’t have to share. I wish for the client to feel good or less scared. I try to make therapy easier, and our first session to be relaxed. I want you to feel empowered. Calling and meeting is the first step to increasing your confidence. It’s a power move to reach out for help – not an
act
of weakness or shame. I am accepting new clients.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
