I have experience working in crisis and high acute care,
suicide
intervention and treatment for those who struggle with chronic self harm thoughts.
I often work with those who feel powerless to their situation and feel “damaged” as a result. I guide others to discover their “power”. This helps them become connected to their true selves and assists in identity development. I use a holistic approach to therapy while also utilizing ACT, DBT, CBT, MI, and other evidence-based interventions. As an empowerment centered therapist, I assist others in discovering and addressing what needs attention and allow safe space for processing and validation. As humans when we experience anxiety, depression, or fear we are often disconnected from purpose, meaning, our intuition, and inspiration.

I big part of my work is helping families with adolescents who are struggling with
suicidal ideation
and/or engaging in self-harming behaviors, as well as families/individuals struggling with addiction.
Well hello there! I'm so grateful you found your way to my page today. My name is Rebecca, and over the last ten years, I have worked as a junior high school counselor. After leaving the school system in 2022, I continue to desire to work with adolescents and families. Being an adolescent and parents/guardians of adolescents can be some of the toughest times to endure, but also an opportunity for growth and healing. I want to walk with you on this journey with so many transitions. My hope is we can explore healing, understanding, and find solutions in a collaborative/integrative approach.

I believe that every individual should receive therapy that is centered on one’s own wellbeing and desire for self-importance. My goal is to help individuals accept and trust themselves as well as to feel valued being themselves. I have worked alongside BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, those within the criminal justice system, and intersecting identities. I have a background in supporting individuals who experience depression, anxiety, traumatic symptoms, personality disorders, and schizophrenia. I believe identity is a key element in understanding the individual and their relationship within wider systems.

Emotions impact and affect the body causing us to hold them on a physical level. I work with the mind-body connection, utilizing mindfulness techniques, Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback, EMDR, breath work, and meditation, viewing the body as a whole to address trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. As a somatic therapist, I combine these techniques to help clients become aware of trauma stored in the body, and work to resolve the trauma and empower the client. I engage the wisdom of the body to heal trauma, depression and anxiety, and move through life transitions by unifying the mind-body connection.

Sometimes, you feel so overwhelmed you wish someone else could step in and live life for you for a while. You're juggling too much and you're worried that if things don't change for you soon, you will hit a breaking point and everything will fall apart around you. The coping skills that have worked for you in the past have stopped working, and now you're wondering if they ever worked that well in the first place. You hope therapy can answer your questions and help you cope. If part of this process for you has been wondering if your anxiety is related to trauma you've experienced in your past, then you have landed in the right place.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
