Staying connected to your partner can be tough - even when there’s a lot of love in your relationship. In fact, being in love can make it that much more painful when you feel far away from or unheard by “your person.” I use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help couples who love one another deeply, yet feel like they are missing each other. My approach is nurturing, compassionate, intuitive, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I love helping parents of young children, pregnant and
postpartum
couples navigate the challenges that come with life with kids.

Often times it can be helpful to engage in therapy during life transitions such as graduating, starting or leaving a job, marriage or breakups/divorce, parenthood/
pregnancy
, and
postpartum
adjustments.
As a therapist, I believe we all have the capacity to move toward healing and wholeness. Sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us in that journey to help untangle our thoughts and straighten out the path. I have the privilege and honor to accompany your self-discovery and growth. My approach to therapy involves building a strong therapeutic relationship in order to establish trust and safety, and then to let you guide the direction you would like therapy to go. This will sometimes involve sharing observations or asking tough questions along with a lot of encouragement.

Hello, I'm here to help. Life is filled with what I consider "tiny deaths". Moments of transition (good or bad). Change can be anticipated, or an unexpected surprise. These events are complimented with complex emotions. Feelings including but not limited to: confusion, rage, grief, stress, anxiety, anger, fear, and loss. My goal is to assist those with processing. I have many clients that do this in an individual capacity, or with their partner/loved one. Allow me to create a space to unpack these changes, along with the inevitable restructuring of your individual identity or relationship as it evolves.

Emotions impact and affect the body causing us to hold them on a physical level. I work with the mind-body connection, utilizing mindfulness techniques, Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback, EMDR, breath work, and meditation, viewing the body as a whole to address trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. As a somatic therapist, I combine these techniques to help clients become aware of trauma stored in the body, and work to resolve the trauma and empower the client. I engage the wisdom of the body to heal trauma, depression and anxiety, and move through life transitions by unifying the mind-body connection.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
