Grief , loss and transition are an integral part of our lives and we often need help and support in coping and navigating through the feelings associated with these experiences. When we are thrown in the midst of change it can create anxiety and uncertainty. It also can be a lonely time when we question ourselves and the meaning of life. My goal as a therapist is to provide the care, support, guidance, empathy and skills needed to help work through difficult feelings in order to live a life filled with purpose and greater joy.

Are you experiencing a circumstance that has led you to a crossroads? Oftentimes it may cause stress, anxiety, grief , loss , or even question your self-worth. First thing most of us do is reach out to a friend or family member, but that may not be enough. Taking a leap of faith and contacting a therapist may be the most hopeful thing you can do. No one should go it alone.

Are you dealing with trauma, anxiety, addiction, stress, grief , or loss ? Do you want peace of mind and to enjoy success? I help individuals realign with their integrity and strength to make the changes they want. Using Eastern and Western techniques I help clients 're-story' traumas and anxieties that allow them to achieve their goals. As an ordained Buddhist priest and former Chaplain, I also offer spiritual counseling. My experience training/counseling prisoners in the United States and Indonesia taught me how often we imprison ourselves with our own emotions.

I am a licensed professional counselor and art therapist with over 15 years of experience including grief counseling, adult and pediatric end of life counseling, family therapy, and trauma based counseling.
The decision to seek therapy in times of turmoil is courageous and wise. Often we spend so much time caring for others and giving of ourselves, that we forget to attend to our own needs - emotionally, physically, and spiritually. At times a heartbreaking loss , illness, divorce, or other event is the catalyst for turning our attention inward. Other times the cause may be a need to gain better interpersonal skills, learn ways to reduce anxiety or trauma symptoms, or simply a desire to know ourselves better. Whatever reason has brought you to this place, I am here to help you.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
