I am an
EMDR
trained therapist.
It takes courage to ask for help and seek out a therapist. Thank you for stopping by my profile. I believe that it is in relationship with others that we find healing from past and present hurts and that therapy is a wonderful way to make space for this healing. My counseling background includes working with children, adolescents, and adults, as well as families. My clients' goals often include wanting to understand why they "do what they do" in their lives and relationships, as well as how they can improve their relationships with themselves and others.

I use compassion, somatic awareness, and
EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to support clients in listening to their bodies to promote positive change and healing.
Emotions impact and affect the body causing us to hold them on a physical level. I work with the mind-body connection, utilizing mindfulness techniques, Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback,
EMDR
, breath work, and meditation, viewing the body as a whole to address trauma, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. As a somatic therapist, I combine these techniques to help clients become aware of trauma stored in the body, and work to resolve the trauma and empower the client. I engage the wisdom of the body to heal trauma, depression and anxiety, and move through life transitions by unifying the mind-body connection.

I take a relational approach to therapy based off current research and techniques including
EMDR
, IFS, DBT, Mindfulness, and various behavioral techniques to help my client’s make meaningful changes.
Are you confused about why you are feeling the way you are feeling? Do you wish things were different? Are you feeling disconnected from others or yourself? Current neuroscience and research tells us that about 90 to 95 percent of the way we think, feel, and act is unconscious and automatic. In my practice, I help people understand why they are acting, feeling, and thinking they are so they can begin change their internal reality. I partner with my client’s to educate and empower them to understand themselves better so they can begin to live more intentionally and pursue their passions in meaningful ways.

In addition to
EMDR
and somatic work, I offer traditional talk therapy where my sole objective is to truly welcome, understand, & accept all parts of yourself and your struggles.
As humans, we innately desire to be connected to and understood by others. For many, connection feels terrifying, confusing, and unsafe. I can help you create and foster a life with fulfilling relationships, with others & with yourself. I specialize in helping folks, who are struggling within relationships, reclaim their spark and inner wisdom, and thrive now. My goal is to help you find bravery & empowerment so that your authentic self drives your actions rather than fear. Stop pushing people away. My work is grounded in Attachment Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology and
EMDR
--all of which recognize the importance of the integration of mind and body.
There comes a time in life when you need additional support...specifically, professional support from someone who not only has therapeutic experience but also has significant life experience. Over the years, I have helped many people discover real relief, peace, resilience, strength and healing that comes from facing and processing unimaginable pain due to the loss of a loved one, a relationship, trauma or episodes of anxiety. I help people address the "yuk" in their lives and transform their pain as they develop a new life narrative that is full of meaning, perspective and hope. Let me help you discover your better tomorrow!

Using
EMDR
& other modalities, such a CBT, IFS & DBT, I work with adults, teens, and families, struggling with conflict, relationship issues, anger, depression, anxiety, divorce, violence, gender identity, family reunification, abuse, and PTSD.
Dealing with trauma and past hurts, struggling with work, relationships, or addiction, managing depression & anxiety or to better understand one's gender identity or sexuality - it isn't easy to address any of these things. I see therapy as a safe, judgment-free, shame-free, and confidential space, where you are free to vent, confide, cry, discuss, imagine, find strength, and be empowered. Most importantly, therapy is a place for hope to come alive, to learn new coping skills, to achieve personal growth, and to discover you are strong, valuable, and greater than any struggle you might have. Change is possible!

We all have times when it might help to have someone to talk with. Having those deep therapeutic conversations can help us make sense of life, break patterns, and to generally improve ourselves and our quality of life. Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
