My ideal client is someone who feels like they’re carrying a lot beneath the surface—maybe they’re highly capable on the outside but feel disconnected, misunderstood, or emotionally overwhelmed inside. They might be navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship struggles, or the weight of cultural or intergenerational expectations. Many long for deeper connection, more self-understanding, and a sense of peace that doesn’t feel fleeting. At the core, they want to live more authentically and feel seen—not just for who they are in moments of strength, but also in their vulnerability, messiness, and complexity.

Life can be daunting, overwhelming and sometimes difficult to cope with. Sometimes, it can feel like we're just existing rather than loving the life we live. Maybe you've had past experiences that have led to substance use, anxiety, depression, grief, shame or feelings of loneliness. Maybe you've struggled to see a way out, or feel constantly reminded of a history you'd like to forget. Maybe you've tried to heal but keep finding yourself in the same patterns, same feelings, same thoughts. Or maybe you haven't known where to even start. You're not alone in any of this, and you don't have to begin your journey to healing alone.

If you’re the one who seems to have it all together, showing up, staying on top of everything, but your mind won’t shut off… it’s exhausting, and you’re not alone. A lot of people feel like they’re stuck in the same place, looking fine on the outside but feeling overwhelmed underneath. Maybe you replay conversations, struggle to set boundaries without guilt, or put everyone else’s needs ahead of your own. Therapy can be a place to take a breath, get clearer on what’s going on, and start moving forward in a way that just feels better.

My specialties include working with people who are healing from challenging relationships, including domestic violence and childhood abuse.
Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed and confused, like their thoughts are tangled and they cannot find their way through them. They are often healing from harmful or abusive relationships, working through attachment wounds, navigating major life transitions, or trying to rebuild a sense of self that got lost somewhere along the way. Some have been questioning their own reality for so long that they just need someone to help them make sense of it. In our work together, we slow down, untangle the confusion, and help you find clarity about who you are and what you need.

“Every choice you make takes you closer to or further away from where you want to be.” This has been a guiding principle of both my life and my counseling practice. I am confident that I have the experience to help support and guide you to get where you want to be. And, just as important, I have the wisdom to know when what is required is not my area of expertise. Whether the choice has to do with an exciting possibility or traumatic situation, helping you decide where you want to be and then evaluating whether your choices take you closer to or further from that destination, is what my practice is about.

Are you feeling stressed out? Not getting along with others? Is your mind super busy or is it hard to think at all? Are you having trouble calming down and finding rest? Or are you shut down, stuck, unable to move? Every minute our internal experience is changing. Our nervous system is constantly moving up and down. We can feel worried, afraid, anxious one day, and isolated, sad, and exhausted the next. It’s totally normal for our system to fluctuate, but if we spend long periods in one state or another it can take a toll on our body, mind, and spirit.

Trauma is defined as "a deeply distressing or disturbing experience." Everyone encounters trauma at some point in life. While some experiences are manageable, allowing us to move forward without issue, others can leave us feeling stuck—leading to heightened anxiety, irritability, nightmares, and triggers.
But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
At Assessing Alternatives Counseling, we provide trauma-focused therapy for all, regardless of age, gender, race, political views, or spiritual beliefs. Everyone is welcome. We specialize in working with pre-teens, teens, and the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
