Are you dealing with trauma, anxiety , addiction, stress, grief, or loss? Do you want peace of mind and to enjoy success? I help individuals realign with their integrity and strength to make the changes they want. Using Eastern and Western techniques I help clients 're-story' traumas and anxieties that allow them to achieve their goals. As an ordained Buddhist priest and former Chaplain, I also offer spiritual counseling. My experience training/counseling prisoners in the United States and Indonesia taught me how often we imprison ourselves with our own emotions.

Do you think you have ADHD? Anxiety ? I am a licensed psychologist and I strive to help adults with anxiety and ADHD understand their strengths and propel themselves towards change. Through conversations, I want to explore how each individual's brain works and identify real-world supportive solutions. Focusing on how thoughts impact feelings can lead to the creation of unique behavioral strategies that improve quality of life and increase self acceptance. My clients work to accept themselves, forgive themselves for past mistakes, and embrace their current stressors as challenges to navigate and move through.

I specialize in treating anxiety , depression, PTSD, phobias, grief and pet loss.
It takes courage to ask for help and seek out a therapist. Thank you for stopping by my profile. I believe that it is in relationship with others that we find healing from past and present hurts and that therapy is a wonderful way to make space for this healing. My counseling background includes working with children, adolescents, and adults, as well as families. My clients' goals often include wanting to understand why they "do what they do" in their lives and relationships, as well as how they can improve their relationships with themselves and others.

The people that come to us are often struggling with cognitive or emotional challenges, such as anxiety , posttraumatic stress, depression, attention deficits, memory issues, "mystery illnesses", or lasting effects following a concussion/brain injury. Many of these clients' struggles have not been adequately resolved through conventional medicine or psychotherapy alone, or they are looking for effective natural alternatives. Relationships evoke our deepest longings and fears , and touch on wounds that may have been long hidden, wounds which we’ve often lived a lifetime without recognizing. The pain of disconnection we feel in relationships, the heated arguments and periods of distance or alienation, can leave us lost and confused, stuck in emotional knots, with our desire for closeness vying against our protective reactions. Cycles of conflict may escalate, and with them, the pain. All the while, deep down, we quietly long to share ourselves more honestly and fully with those whom we are closest to.

I have lots of experience working with adults addressing a variety of concerns including anxiety , depression, trauma, and relational issues.
Are you confused about why you are feeling the way you are feeling? Do you wish things were different? Are you feeling disconnected from others or yourself? Current neuroscience and research tells us that about 90 to 95 percent of the way we think, feel, and act is unconscious and automatic. In my practice, I help people understand why they are acting, feeling, and thinking they are so they can begin change their internal reality. I partner with my client’s to educate and empower them to understand themselves better so they can begin to live more intentionally and pursue their passions in meaningful ways.

Sometimes, you feel so overwhelmed you wish someone else could step in and live life for you for a while. You're juggling too much and you're worried that if things don't change for you soon, you will hit a breaking point and everything will fall apart around you. The coping skills that have worked for you in the past have stopped working, and now you're wondering if they ever worked that well in the first place. You hope therapy can answer your questions and help you cope. If part of this process for you has been wondering if your anxiety is related to trauma you've experienced in your past, then you have landed in the right place.

Do you feel like your family is living in chaos? Is your child or teen struggling with school? Peers? With anxiety ? I offer a strength-based and collaborative approach while working with children, teens, adults, and families. I would be honored to help you and your family learn the tools to make and maintain the changes needed to live the life you want to live. Although many therapists, including myself have a reduced fee, services are still not financially accessible for many families. I supervise Master's level interns with a sliding scale between $65-$25 per session. Everyone should be able to access mental health care.

Emotions impact and affect the body causing us to hold them on a physical level. I work with the mind-body connection, utilizing mindfulness techniques, Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback, EMDR, breath work, and meditation, viewing the body as a whole to address trauma, depression, anxiety , and life transitions. As a somatic therapist, I combine these techniques to help clients become aware of trauma stored in the body, and work to resolve the trauma and empower the client. I engage the wisdom of the body to heal trauma, depression and anxiety , and move through life transitions by unifying the mind-body connection.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
