I am incredibly fortunate to be the son of Professor Arnold Lazarus. Not only did I literally learn at the feet of the man who pioneered cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), but from his amazing colleagues and friends as well. Indeed, I have been privileged to get to know and learn from Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, Aaron Beck, Francine Shapiro, and Marsha Linehan, to name only a few. Hence, I have been able to synthesize the teachings of many of the greatest minds in psychology into an approach that is at once scientifically grounded, tailored to fit the needs of unique individuals, highly flexible, and comprehensive.
At the core of my approach is a firm belief that no matter how knowledgeable and technically skilled a therapist is, an authentic, therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and respect is crucial for success. As my father often said, "The therapeutic relationship is the soil that enables the techniques to take root."
In addition to my clinical work, as Director of The Lazarus Institute for CBT, I provide supervision for other therapists, and write and present extensively for professional and public audiences.
