I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with adults, couples, adolescents and children for over 10 years. Since children and some adolescents need play to express their feelings and conflicts, I have designed a play therapy room to meet their needs. I would describe my clinical style as being eclectic since everyone comes with different needs and problems. I work with clients in exploring and easing their present stressors and also in discovering the roots of their emotional stress. This emotional awareness is needed to prevent reoccurrence of the presenting problem. My clients always ask me, why do we have to go into my childhood sometimes? "Because unresolved childhood issues are like a luggage, that always gets carried into our adult relationships and prevent us from having fulfilling lives".
The most important work is the relationship between the client and the therapist. Without having a positive connection, the therapeutic process will be slower or less effective. Over and over I have seen that those clients who overcome their problems are those who have been able to tolerate the process which sometimes could be painful and elicit conflict with their therapist. This conflict is healthy and promotes growth if openly discussed.
I have extensive experience working with clients who have experienced trauma related to sexual and domestic abuse. I have treated both men and women with these issues. It is rewarding to see how through the process of therapy the person becomes "whole" again and no longer feels "like damaged goods".
No sufra asolas.
