So, you're looking for a therapist.... This is one of the most courageous things you can do. I believe that no one knows you better than you know yourself; oftentimes, there is too much clutter in our lives which can interfere with our ability to see clearly.
Since I have been practicing for over 30 years, I have worked in a variety of settings, with a variety of people, who have all contributed to a wide array of experiences. My orientation is as eclectic and diverse as my clients and their issues. I believe that therapy is most effective when client and therapist work together to develop clear priorities.
So how exactly does therapy help? Think of it as a path to discovering some of the reasons for the way you feel and perhaps even the choices you've made. When you're able to understand those parts of yourself, you'll be better able to understand why you feel the way you do, and hopefully, to develop the skills needed to make things better.
