There are many reasons why people come into psychotherapy. These reasons can include depression, anxiety, loneliness, past traumas, loss, emptiness, psychological reactions to medical illness and pain as well as the desire to learn and grow personally and interpersonally. In my experience one's pains and worries decrease during the therapeutic process, and life feels richer, livelier and more manageable. Exploring together in a safe place where there is time to experience one's self in greater depth moves the process forward toward healing.
Approaching and working with emotional pain is a highly personal task. My job is witnessing and recognizing what you express and enabling you to serve as a fuller resource for yourself. It is not atypical for people to discover within themselves strengths and capacities they didn't realize they had.
Speaking one's story and processing one's experiences is often best done with another. For what has been painful and injured in relationship is often best healed through relationship. My approach is to help establish a safe therapeutic space in which we can understand and create meanings together.
