I have experience and interest in a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, childhood abuse, and stress management.
The decision to reach out for counseling can be one of the most important and helpful things you can do for your mental health and wellbeing. The process can be frightening and uncomfortable. Sometimes we have to take a step outside of our comfort zones and try something new. One of my professional goals is to help build a calm environment and strong therapeutic relationship conducive to meaningful change.

Finding help can feel overwhelming, daunting, and scary. It is a vulnerable feeling to trust someone with your deepest insecurities and pain. My goal is to be a soft place to land where you feel compassion and understanding. We all need someone in our lives who will listen without judgment and care for us without conditions. Anxiety, depression, pain, and illness do not have to take away your power any longer. Struggling with mental health can be an all-consuming and isolating experience. You don't have to walk this path alone.

It brings me joy, day after day, to see my clients heal from lifelong pain, and find confidence that seemed unimaginable before Brainspotting.
Do you feel stuck, lost, anxious, depressed, afraid, or angry? Of course, we all feel strong emotions at times. Some of us are frozen by these emotions, have panic attacks, depression, rage, or fears that affect every aspect of our lives. Others describe having a “mental block” that interferes with achieving goals, or performance enhancement. Maybe you've been to counseling and don’t feel like it helped or worked for you. I specialize in working with clients that have tried counseling and given up, feel hopeless, helpless, and desperate for someone to meet them where they are and guide them to the best version of themselves!

Life can be overwhelming and challenging at times. Occasionally we find ourselves completely stuck in our suffering and pain. It doesn’t have to be that way. Counseling can give you a safe place to uncover the links between the past and the present, and also discover and release the unhealthy patterns and old memories that keep you stuck. It can help you develop self-compassion and enable you to tap into the path of resilience that dwells within each of us.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
