I love working with a wide variety of clients, but I truly feel like I am operating in my gifting when I sit with clients who are working through depression, anxiety, or loneliness. Furthermore, my education combined with personal and professional experience has opened the door for me to work with clients who may be trying to leave an abusive relationship or who are trying to discern if they are are in an abusive/unhealthy relationship. That said, these are not the only issues I help clients with. If you have questions about how I work or the types of clients I see, give me a call.

I work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, grief, family conflict, anger, life transitions, and marital issues. I enjoy working with clients who desire to have someone help them in navigating these issues and finding their own unique path to wholeness. I strive to create an environment of genuine acceptance that promotes a sense of safety and encouragement for personal and familial growth. I have had over four years of experience focused on working with younger adolescents and their families addressing conflict, behavior problems, and family relationship dynamics.

Embracing life's uncertainties, transitions, & unmet expectations can be challenging, but we are able to move forward with meaning & purpose. Sometimes building a level of resilience & mental fortitude is required for us to progress. By using an underlying attachment-based approach, I’m able to provide therapeutic services that are safe, authentic, & non-judgemental to allow for healing & growth. I have found that tailoring the modalities used to each client provides positive outcomes in various situations. EMDR, exposure & response prevention (ERP), experiential activities, & play therapy are among those that I am trained in.

Sometimes what we need most in life is something that we don't know to ask for. Things like support, encouragement, appreciation, or maybe just understanding seem like foreign concepts. My goal is to assist you in developing skills that will help you to navigate life's challenges, and that help to build and maintain healthy lasting relationships. Often, our struggles make us feel like there is nothing we can do to change ourselves or our situations. I am here to say that it is okay to feel this way, and even more so, it is okay to ask for help. Hope is possible, healing can happen and there is more to you than your past experiences.

We all have areas of our lives where we feel stuck. We can’t seem to figure out what’s going on inside us or in our situations. Even if we see a problem, we might not know how to navigate it. Counseling is an experience that helps you safely explore these places to make sense of your experience and find more clarity for the experiences to come. Together, we sift through the combination of thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns that make up who we are to find deeper understanding, clarity, and peace.

You are significant and your story is important. My hope is for you to not only know this but believe it. The pain of feeling forgotten, rejected, or abandoned is often too much to manage. Trauma, grief, and anxiety tend to magnify these uncomfortable feelings and can lead to experiences of shame. At some point, you feel like you can no longer navigate this journey alone. The thing is, I don't think you are meant to carry it by yourself. I see your strength and I can see that you are tired. Inviting someone else in is not a step of weakness, it is absolutely a step of bravery.

Whoever said “Time heals all wounds” clearly never experienced trauma. When you face something so painful that it feels like it leaves a permanent mark on you, time doesn’t just make that go away. The good news is, healing is possible. You don’t have to suffer like this forever. As a mental health therapist, I work with people who have experienced deep hurt from other people. Maybe it was a parent who never seemed to have time for you. A spouse who belittled you. That family member who violated you. Or the friend who abandoned you.

As humans, we innately desire to be connected to and understood by others. For some, connection feels terrifying, confusing, and unsafe. I can help you build and foster a life with fulfilling relationships, with others & with yourself. My goal is to help you access bravery & empowerment so that your whole, authentic self drives your actions instead of fear. Stop obsessing, people pleasing, & stewing in resentment. Heal the root of feeling misunderstood, unloveable, and out of place. Learn to engage in honest conversations rather than only speaking your truth when you're alone. Create powerful community and deep meaning in your life.

I have been working in the field of mental healthcare since 2012. While my experience has granted me the privilege of working with a variety of ages and issues, I am most passionate about working with trauma, anger management, panic, anxiety, cutting and self-harming, dissociation, and domestic violence. I have training in EMDR, a specialized therapy developed for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress and other trauma related concerns. I also frequently utilize mindfulness and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training in my approach as a way to build resilience and healthy coping.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Chattanooga?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
