My clients have had various struggles, such as depression, anxiety, sexual identity crises, life transition struggles (school, adolescence, college, marriage) trauma, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, and separation/loss.
Change and growth are tough. My goal as your therapist is to aide you to move from being stuck in your life to creating a life that is in alignment with your true self. I would be honored to assist you and/or your child in gaining the skills and insight necessary for your growth.

With many excellent therapists to choose from, it may be difficult to know who would be a good fit for you. I strive to develop a comfortable environment in which you can explore the issues that concern you, consider the alternatives that can bring you closer to the life you want to live, discover your inner resources and skills and transform them into action that can help you fulfill your goals and dreams. My practice focuses on general psychotherapy issues such as depression, general anxiety, and traumatic experience.

As someone with over twenty-five years of experience with all facets of mental health, as well as substance abuse, I am both well-versed & well-rounded therapeutically. I seek to provide my clients with an open, supportive, and non-judgmental modality of therapy. I seek to encourage authenticity, individuation while providing both long & short terms goals for successful outcomes with clients. Utilizing a simple approach to therapy, which seems to be extremely effective, is to stay where my clients lead & or need me to go...until a solid foundation of trust and commitment are established.

If you want to solve your personal problems, control your headaches, or other symptoms of stress, anxiety or depression, deal more effectively with your loved ones, friends and coworkers, then I would like to help. If you are self-motivated, sensitive, desire to improve yourself, and value personal responsibility, then I believe you are well suited to the type of help provide. If you not interested in clever explanations that only allow you to blame others, and do not lead you to a happier, more enlightened and effective life, then we are already on the same wavelength

Searching for a therapist can be a very overwhelming process. Maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past and it didn’t work out, or perhaps this is your first time looking into therapy. One of the first things I like to do as a therapist is to get to know each other. It’s my opinion that having a therapist you’re able to trust and feel comfortable with is essential in building the therapeutic alliance. From there, we will assess your goals as well as your strengths to increase self-esteem and improve relationships.

For many people, facing life's problems can be scary, and asking for help in confronting them seems down right impossible. If you are one of these people, therapy may be beneficial to you. Therapy can help you develop a deeper understanding of these challenging issues as well as a greater understanding of yourself and how you relate to others. By helping you articulate your thoughts and feelings, and gaining a better understanding of your past experiences, we can work together to help you live a more satisfying and meaningful life.

Many people wait too long to call a therapist. They are suffering and think things might get better on their own. By waiting people just feel worse or relationship issues become even more complicated. Psychotherapy helps you find new pathways for healing, untangling life's challenges to arrive at greater clarity and peace. I make that process as comfortable as possible by being authentically present, connected, & open. An active listener to the issues you bring forth. It is my goal to establish a collaborative alliance with you so we can enable positive change leading to a deep sense of well being.

My theoretical orientation is integrative, which means I use a combination of humanistic, solution-focused, person-centered, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness based /contemplative approaches, stress management, and insight oriented techniques-depending on the needs of the client. I understand how critical the relationship between client and therapist is to the success of the therapeutic experience. As such, my hope always is to provide a warm, empathetic, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment-one in which my clients will feel safe and encouraged to build trust and work towards self-empowerment. To that end, I employ a collaborative, strengths-oriented approach.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
