I believe everyone has the capacity for growth and healing. I feel deeply honored to journey alongside my clients as they face the challenges of being human. I value creating a space for my clients where anything can be said and explored without fear of judgment. I love helping individuals identify and embrace all parts of themselves, even their dark or "shadowy" side. This process can lead to greater self-esteem and authenticity.

Are you struggling with being present? Does it feel like no one else thinks the way you do? Perhaps you’re struggling with your identity or not being seen for the person you are. Are you feeling a crippling weight of expectations for who you “should” be or what you “should” do? Do you find yourself constantly overwhelmed, having difficulty focusing, or overthinking? Do days and months pass with nothing to show for them, nothing changing? As life happens around you, do you find yourself falling into unhelpful or painful patterns? Do you want things to change for the better, to feel hopeful again, but don’t know where to begin.

I am specifically inclined to work with folks who are curious about using the creative process to heal, who are LGBTQ+, who are interested in exploring new ways to find or relocate their intuitive voice to reconstruct and tell their story, and who are in recovery from substance use, imposter syndrome, or wounded childhoods.Compiling words together to form accurate depictions of personal narratives attached to life experiences can feel extremely daunting in talk therapy alone. With the invitation to use art, movement, metaphor, sound and play, exploring creativity can provide non-threatening means to access empowerment and healing.

YOU are here for a reason and being called to pay attention to a deep desire or need in your life. Perhaps it’s healing an old wound, addressing a challenge, expressing yourself, or learning to listen to your inner voice. Ignoring that small voice won't help. Trust me, I've tried, but befriending it will. Healing takes courage and creativity. And when we suffer, we often forget that there is a solution to every problem. All problems in living can be thought of as a failure of the imagination, an inability to envision solutions, garner resources, or initiate movement. I'm here to help you listen, visualize, and take action again!

Life can be downright hard when you are trying to juggle everything life is throwing at you. Perhaps you want more clarity in life or want to find a new direction. You may feel stuck and having a hard time moving forward. It can be exhausting trying to muster up the energy to get out of bed and take care of your responsibilities and yourself. You may have thoughts you are not worthy or have a fractured sense of self. What would it feel like to have the energy and motivation to finally take on the day again, to feel worthy to live the life you want, or to smash those goals you have put off?

Out of network provider for all insurances You're tired. You have to carry BIG emotions all the damn time with no outlet to let them out. You cry when you’re alone, but put on a smile so the world can’t see you're hurting on the inside. There is no time to slow down because slowing down makes the inner critic grow louder about how awful you are. Perhaps you get some release through disordered eating, but ultimately, that voice comes right back again. The inner critic makes it hard for you to accept yourself and love your flaws. It makes it hard for you to live your life intentionally, with confidence in yourself to use your voice.

I work primarily with couples experiencing relationship challenges (conflict, infidelity, relationship distance, parenting challenges) as well as with individuals who are facing personal challenges (stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and general difficulty with emotion management). It’s easy to feel stuck in cycles that bring negative, unwanted results in our lives. I work to facilitate a supportive and collaborative environment to help you heal from painful experiences, break those cycles and embody the change that you want.

The best time to mend your relationship with your body is 20 years ago. The second best time is NOW. You have been feeling at war with your body and confused about your relationship with food. You are ready to heal the underlying issues that led you to be preoccupied with your body and food. You have tried other approaches and are ready to heal the root causes. You are highly sensitive, intelligent, intuitive and creative and focusing on food and your body has been a way to manage being a thin skinned person in a thick skinned world. You have a sense that your body could be a resource in healing and reclaiming trust with yourself.

When I was an adolescent I was a Bart Simpson. I was routinely sent to the office, struggled with peer relationships and had frequent conflicts with authority figures. I relate well with teen and young adult males because I still partake in skating, lifting, and gaming. It can be difficult navigating the labyrinths of life, be it conflicts with parents, the effects of divorce, the aftermath of abuse, etc. Long story short, with good decisions and coping skills, you can overcome your problems and correct the course of your ship.

Engaging in therapy is an important commitment and can be difficult to fit in with the rest of life's responsibilities. Perhaps you've tried therapy before and found it unhelpful, or worry that constant engagement in therapy is required for lasting change. Trying to cope with the aftermath of trauma, or the way anxiety symptoms can disrupt a day, or having the same fight again and again with a partner can seem to take all of your energy and motivation. Life is often stressful and chaotic, and the times when we feel most stretched thin are the times we need the most support and change.

I believe in feelings. YOUR feelings. Usually, people come to me with emotions like overwhelm, isolation and invisibility. They say, “I’m afraid I’m a failure,” and “I don’t think I’m doing this right.” My job is to spark curiosity about your inner landscape. I support your gradual unfolding: learning to metabolize and negotiate feeling states, becoming mindful of the present moment, and locating patterns that you might not even be aware of. I help people understand the nature of attachment, the physiology of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, and how authentic connection nourishes our psyche and promotes long-term health.

All behavior is a form of communication and sometimes we need help interpreting what others are really asking for, especially when it comes to children. Young children can speak to us in unfamiliar ways. Your preschool or daycare may call to say your child has expressed their emotions inappropriately or acted out. You may find yourself tired and worried about your child, about childcare, or about your parenting. This is where I come in. I’ve worked with young children (0-6 years old) in schools, homes and community settings for 14 years, helping them find alternative ways to express themselves and process their emotions.

The world is a complicated place. And sometimes the best way to make sense of it all is to sit down with someone and talk it out. When we begin to speak freely about ourselves, we gain not only the opportunity to be heard and understood- We begin to map the richly resourced, vast, and sometimes difficult terrain of our inner lives. In my experience, the best kind of conversation - the kind that heals, energizes & changes lives - is thoughtfully paced and as free as possible from the pressures and expedience that can sometimes rule our daily lives.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Asheville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
