The clients I tend to gravitate towards are those who are neurodivergent, highly sensitive, struggle with eating disorders/disordered eating, are unpacking unhelpful and often harmful messages that they've internalized, relearning their true selves, and finding a way to safely be embodied in their body and their place in this world.

Life is full of many types of suffering, some of which strike in the most unexpected of moments. Kurt Vonnegut wrote that "we are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is," and I pledge to work with my clients to shift our relationship with our own suffering. I want to both reduce the weight of one's inner problematic experiences and to create more distance and more balance with how they are experienced.

The stress of life can often hold you back from your fullest potential. Stress, anxiety, and trauma can become overwhelming and get in the way of you building relationships and living your best life. Sometimes it can be hard to work through life’s struggles alone, and you shouldn’t have to. Therapy can be a safe, collaborative place to work through and process those struggles without judgment. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate, with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Are you overwhelmed and depleted by the historic stressors of the past several years…or decades? Has your role as a parent or partner diminished your sense of self? Does acknowledging your own needs trigger your inner critic and feelings of guilt? I am a seasoned cognitive behavioral therapist with additional specialization in pregnancy/postpartum mental health and couples therapy. As social beings, our relationships can be powerful catalysts for personal healing and growth. Many former clients describe how deepening intimate bonds in the present brings healing to past wounds and long-held insecurities.

You have been trying to find some way to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. You have always experienced life with great depth and thoughtfulness, however, something hasn’t quite clicked yet. You perceive that others seem to have their lives together, although, in all of your rich internal experience, you haven’t been able to, just yet, put all of the pieces together. You may feel alone, experience anxiety, depression, or engage in compulsive behaviors you just can’t manage to quit. Yet, something in you knows that there is a greater world out there, maybe even right around the corner, if you could just get a glimpse of it.

Are you feeling frustrated or confused as to what to do next to support your child? Has something changed and they just don't seem like them self lately? Maybe they are acting different or distancing them self, struggling at school, stressed by peer relationships, seem more irritable and angry, have low motivation. Are they struggling with regulating or coping with uncomfortable emotions? Perhaps they are coming out sideways: excessive worry, defiance, refusal, self-harm, eating struggles, anger, withdrawing. My goal is to provide a secure, safe, supportive space for you and your child to share, heal, grow and thrive.

Are you looking for something deeper out of therapy than feeling emotionally validated or learning to change your thought patterns? If you're like many people I've talked with, you don't want band-aids. You don't want coping skills for your depression, mindfulness exercises for your anxiety or panic - you want to know WHY you're experiencing those challenges in the first place. If you're asking these deeper questions, there's some part of you that is longing for more than just the immediate relief from your symptoms. There is a part of you that desires serious personal growth and transformation. And I want to help you achieve it!

My practice is not accepting new clients at this time. I commend you for being here. It takes courage and strength to ask for help. I believe as human beings we are resilient and often intuitively know what we need to do to heal. Unfortunately sometimes that healing can be thwarted by seemingly insurmountable barriers such as depression, anxiety, history of trauma, or substance abuse. Let's work together to create more effective coping skills so you may actually live, rather than just survive, your life. I find that the best results in treatment stem from focusing on people's strengths rather than their weaknesses.

Do you often find yourself comparing yourself to those around you, wondering how they all seem to have it all figured out while you are just trying to hold it together? You are stressed, on edge, and wondering if anything will ever change. Hello and Welcome! I have been a committed practitioner and learner in mental health for the past 20 years. My belief is that every individual has his or her own distinct path to psychological well being. My goal as a therapist is to assist my clients with finding their own path by helping them get in touch with their own inner wisdom. I believe that people are doing the best that they can, however at times their true self can be blocked or hidden from awareness. Therapy can help to uncover this truth.

I work from the idea that all of our life experiences are opportunities to discover ourselves. The road to peace, health, healing, purpose, meaning, and happiness is learning how to allow and be more of YOU, and less of who you think you should/ need to be. You and I will process your story, get to know your patterns, see what is getting in the way, and ultimately help you feel empowered and inspired.

There are good days, bad days, and days that are completely overwhelming. You have never thought so much about your body in your life, and now you struggle with it every day. You remember when you trusted your body. There were times when you felt ill, but you recovered before. Now, your medical team is telling you that there is no going back to how things used to be. You are angry, you are frightened, you are hurting, and your loved ones are, too. Nobody seems to know exactly what to say, or what you need. It feels like a bomb has gone off in your life, and you are sifting through the rubble.

I enjoy working with men and women in recovery to support long-term sobriety and emotional health. The process of rebuilding your relationships and your life can seem tedious and difficult but it is absolutely possible and worth it. I also support people in long term sobriety and who want to explore deeper layers in their lives around trauma, attachment, family of origin issues, and finding meaning and purpose. Finally, I love to work with creatives, artists and makers who want to realize their potential.

I work with people who feel overwhelmed--by work, big transitions, relationships, family, life. My approach is gentle, non-judgmental, and deep. I enjoy helping clients become more fully aware of themselves and of the patterns that hold them back in life, and working with them to feel more grounded and connected with themselves and with others. Many of my clients are people who are in helping professions or caretaking roles. Many are women or non-binary individuals, and are longing to feel more at home in their own skin and more confident in their own strength, beauty, and wisdom.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Asheville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
