I spent years working with clients in Wake and Durham counties and still do! Are you struggling day in day out and want to see something change? I'd love to get to know you and collaborate on how you might cultivate a more fulfilling, less distressing life. I counsel women ages 21+ living with anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain and illness; relationship issues, work stressors, major life transitions, grief and loss, creative block, learning self advocacy. I am an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. You can learn to flourish despite issues you may now see as impediments. Let me walk with you on this journey. Let's find your joy!

Greetings, I am sure our paths have not crossed by accident. I'm curious to see where this journey will lead .Maybe right now you're deep in your feelings, feeling sad or numb, wishing to feel JOY again... or just feel anything but this. Maybe you've experienced trauma and it plays over and over again, the pain or fear won't go away. Maybe you're struggling with relationships, situationships, friendships, or family connections. Maybe you're worried all the time and you just can't relax. Maybe you've wished Iyanla would just come fix your life!!

Pain, trauma, feeling different/misunderstood/unknown or even how we see ourselves can drive a wedge between us and the people and life experiences that matter most to us. If you are looking for someone who will join with you as you find your way through to a more meaningful way of living and toward more fulfilling relationships, then I welcome you to contact me for a free consultation.

I am often asked why I chose to be a therapist. My answer is always the same. I understand what it feels like to go through something difficult, new, or challenging alone. Therapy is my passion, and serving as a guide/supportive presence to help clients reach their goals is my sole purpose in treatment. I believe that every client is an expert regarding their life experiences. Therefore, therapy is a collaborative effort, so I am always open to feedback from clients in order to provide the best service for each individual.

You can grow and heal, despite what you've been through (think flowers blooming through concrete). You're going to feel so much better once you start digging the rot out and healing. I'm an expert at clearing trauma and anxiety, by rewiring your mind and regulating your nervous system. Not only does trauma get healed and processed, but when hard things come up you they feel easy to navigate and you do so with confidence + ease. I don't believe healing has to be hard or take forever, in fact I believe it can be light + fun. With me, you're gonna work but you're also going to laugh and learn to savor this one wild and precious life.

I believe that clients have within themselves the capacity to learn and grow from their experiences as they develop more meaningful, healthier, and happier lives. Seeking counseling can be an initial step towards finding clarity and affirmation of one’s self. I work with adolescents and adults on a range of developmental and mental health related concerns. I have a passion for working with individuals impacted by chronic illness. Other specific areas of experience and competence include LGBTQIA+, gender, and adjustment related concerns, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and life transitions.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by fear, worry, sadness, or distress? I am humbled that you've forged your way here. Sometimes it takes just one person on your side to help uncover and see what is likely already there. And to add a few tools and techniques to your 'resilience pack' along the way. You absolutely have what it takes to shape the life you want for yourself and those you care about.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
