Mental health is rarely a linear path and too often we feel like progress needs to be measured in the here and now. Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. I enjoy working with clients that are seeking to address areas in their life that they are struggling with. The client I tend to work best with is someone who is willing to look at their life with an open mind and a willingness to work on asserting more control in their journey. I am inclusive of all and pass no judgement as all of us need a space to safely explore our needs.

Accepting new clients! As a therapist, I strive to support young adults (18-35) who are working toward recovery from trauma. I work with clients who have experienced a variety of traumas including sexual assault, accidents, interpersonal violence, arrests/incarceration, abuse and neglect in childhood, etc. Common goals in my work are eliminating unhelpful thinking, eradicating feelings of guilt and shame, enhancing future safety, increasing self-esteem, and improving self-advocacy skills. Additionally, I encourage my clients to work with me to create goals specific to their needs and circumstances.

Anyone can benefit from taking a step away from the chaos and spending some time listening to the help their bodies are asking for. Through soothing and tactile sessions such as painting and sand, calming music and a lot of plants, let's work on what is causing the anger, not just find coping techniques. Why we are self-harming and what are other ways to manage? What is the root of the family fights? Parents, let's find something different to do because yelling and crying does not feel good and it is not working. Come as you are, and you will be welcomed. I embrace all with a warm heart, an open ear and with hot chocolate :)

Being a high-achieving, sensitive person can feel like a gift and a curse. These traits might be part of what make you really good at what you do and might also make it feel really hard to do what you do all in the same moment. Actors, musicians, performers and creative artists are often asked to create from their sensitivities while being put in settings and circumstances where their sensitivities are heightened. This dichotomy can make it feel really challenging to do what you love and “be ok” at the same time.

My goal is to help you to resolve the problems that bring you to therapy and to help you to understand the personal and environmental factors that might have contributed to your problems. I draw from both insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral approaches and I believe that therapy is first and foremost a collaborative partnership where the patient and therapist work together to achieve stability; restore functioning; remedy long-standing, problematic behavior patterns; and develop a platform for lifelong growth, renewed energy, self-development and enhanced relationships. I've been in practice since 1990.

Have you experienced a loss, change, or transition that has left you thinking, “this isn’t how it was supposed to be” or “no one understands”? Because of this, you feel hopeless, or afraid you aren’t going to be able to go on. Maybe you are caring for someone with a chronic or terminal illness and you feel exhausted and angry, and then almost immediately guilty for feeling that way. When you try to talk to others, they tell you to "think of the good things", which then leads you to feel more anger and frustration. You are tired of feeling like this.

Has your anxiety taken over? You continually ask yourself “Why am I feeling this way?" "Have I made the right decision?" "Why can't I stop overthinking?" You consistently feel like you are all over the place mentally and emotionally. Constant comparisons are affecting your self esteem, leading you to wonder why others lives are going well & yours is NOT. Overwhelming feelings have you contemplating the worst case scenario rather than the more likely outcome? I can help you make sense of your negative thinking. Together, we can explore the cause of these thoughts and with guidance help you regain control of how you respond to them.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a safe haven for you to explore, discover and heal the authentic you! After a long day of being what the world needs you to be, HERE together is where we unmask and uncover who you truly are -- HERE is where happiness lives. I have a passion for the therapeutic process by deconstructing learned behavior and patterns while bringing blind-spots into awareness so that motivated clients can make conscious changes and show up in the world, life and relationships joyfully engaged as your true self.

Transparency is important to me, and I want you to know that I face struggles just like anyone else. Relationships, parenting, and my own emotions and trauma - they're all part of my journey too. That's why I firmly believe in therapy and, just like you, my therapist is one of my biggest support systems. Therapy is my go to for healing and growth. My vision has grown to give me the freedom to be with you on your life's journey, providing guidance, support, and a judgment-free space. Making a difference in someone's life, even if it's through a smile or a release of tears, is what drives me every day.

I believe that each individual has both a unique set of gifts and a world view shaped by past experiences and present circumstances. I also believe that in order to know where we are going, we need to realize how we arrived where we are in our present circumstances. Through sessions together, I will collaborate with you to assist you in recognizing your individual strengths and strive to empower you with the self-awareness and self-confidence to pursue your dreams. I take a person-centered, creative, non-judgmental approach to counseling, helping you to see how your uniquely shaded lenses of experience color your perceptions.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Raleigh?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
