I have over 17 years of experience in the field of mental health, addiction, and chronic pain between inpatient and outpatient settings.
I believe that if you are seeking help now, then you have made the first step onto the road of recovery. The process of change can be very different for everyone, and I tailor my approach to wherever you are in your journey. My approach is goal directed, yet patient and empathic. I strive to help those motivated for change begin to find their true path in life. I also identify a more holistic/integrative approach to therapy, by looking at how mental health impacts the whole person (mind, body, soul). My practice will eventually expand to offer behavioral health with holistic wellness techniques and services.

In my 20+ years in the field, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals dealing with a wide range of challenges and experiences. Each person has their own unique experience in life and with mental health issues and stressors. I feel therapy should be individualized to the person and each session should aim to offer growth and insight. I offer space for folks to feel accepted, safe and heard. I am especially committed to treating the LGBTGIA+ community, those seeking gender affirming care (trans/NB), neurodiverse folks, people coping with chronic pain/medical issues. Issues specific to women and AFAB folks.

I am not accept new clients at this time. I work to create a space without judgment where clients can learn, heal and grow. I work with people living with life transitions, trauma, grief/life losses and chronic illness/burns with compassion, while acknowledging the unique experience of each person. Every client I meet comes with their own set of gifts, challenges, supports and dreams. No one tells the same story as another...and I welcome the distinctiveness of each client. Entering therapy can be a scary process. I take great pride in my ability to create a safe space to partner and explored with each client uniquely.

I have experience in the areas of disability, chronic pain, parenting, autism, development, attachment, anxiety, depression, transition to adulthood, trauma, and maternal mental health.
Therapy works best when the client and therapist are a good fit. My goal is to create a space that is open, non-judgmental, and empathetic to your experiences in life. Within this space, I find my clients are able to become more aware of their thought patterns and emotions. This allows them to process the experiences they have been through in life in a healthy way. I believe we all have our own challenges in life and therapy can be a place to work on ourselves from the inside out.

The process of learning ourselves & diving into the depth of our pain is not a path that we must take alone. In our practice it is our privilege to travel alongside you to support your growth, understanding, and acceptance during this part of your journey. to achieve your therapeutic goals. We offer EMDR Intensive Therapy sessions. It can be difficult to resolve a feeling issue with a thinking solution, so we utilize healing modalities that allow us to get to the core of the issues you are facing. "I learned long ago that in order to heal my wounds I must have the courage to face them” – Paulo Coelho.

I consider it an honor to guide people on their journey through this life, to help them release old patterns of thought, feeling and behavior that interfere with their sense of well-being and wholeness, resolve the effects of lingering pain and/or past trauma, explore what is important and meaningful in their lives, and find new purpose and depth in themselves and in their relationship to the world around them. If you find yourself lost, in your relationships and/or your life, in a world that makes little sense, we can find a path and way of being that feels right for you in the most fulfilling way.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
