We have a great family of therapists in our group who also focus on individual, couples, and family issues, mood disorders, addictive behaviors, and chronic pain and illness.
Healing Pathways Therapy Center provides a safe nurturing environment for adults, adolescents, and children to focus on relationship, well-being and mental health issues. We focus on topics such as life adjustment, depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, divorce, phobias, trauma, addictions, etc. We specialize in trauma and childhood attachment issues, working to resolve big or little traumas or negative experiences which tend to impede emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual growth. We focus on healing rather than just coping, by finding resolving underlaying issue rather than just putting a bandaid on symptoms.

I have personal experience with relationship stress, trauma, chronic illness, and loss, and an academic emphasis in trauma-informed care.
Seeking help in therapy takes strength and bravery, and I applaud clients for taking the first steps. It's easy to be hard on ourselves about how we feel or how we respond to our experiences. Sometimes we feel stuck, individually or in our relationships, and it can be hard to see a new path. I'm passionate about helping clients reach their potential to grow, change the patterns that no longer serve them, and move past the obstacles in their way. I work with clients to process and heal, create greater connections in their relationships, communicate more effectively, create healthy boundaries, and move through life more confidently.

If you have chronic emotional and physical symptoms of psychosomatic origin, I can help you resolve the root cause of your pain.
Taking the initial step to go to therapy isn’t an easy one. You may be feeling hurt, unsafe, scared, exhausted, lonely, or even desperate. The list is endless. You finally gathered the courage to seek for help and really hope to find a welcoming therapist that will make you feel safe and accepted as you are. I hope to create that kind of welcoming and safe environment for you, because I believe that when these conditions are present, healing is much more likely to occur.

When a person sits on my couch and says, "I'm ready to change," I often respond with, "I'm ready to help." Change is difficult. It takes work. But it happens. Giving time and space to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can give you a toolkit to adapt memories of the past and craft the future you've always wanted. Sometimes I think the job of a psychologist is to reduce suffering from mental illness, but more and more it's helping people thrive amidst adversity; to flourish in their life. If you want to reduce the anxiety and stress of the people closest to you, you need to thrive. You need to succeed. And I'm here to help.

The privilege of a lifetime is to become - Carl Jung. ..... Becoming who you truly are can be near impossible when you're struggling just to focus and get through the day. Therapy is very much a process of developing a relationship with someone you can truly trust who takes the time to really get to know you and what you’re going through. Treatment depends on the cause, which could be related to trauma, temperament, biology, and relationships to name a few. We will work together to identify what’s causing your distress and develop a plan to fit your individual needs.

"There was a dawn remembered when my soul heard something from your soul" - Rumi - The therapuetic encounter allows for the kind of "dawning" which Rumi alludes to. Who am I at my truest being? What lessons am I meant to learn in this lifetime? What gifts do I bring to this world? What is the greater good I want to serve? Each human journey is a mysterious and beautiful evolution of understanding who we are and why we are here. We often lose sight of our inner beauty and goodness due to what seems like life's betrayals, rejections and overwhelming challenges.

Pain in life is inevitable and can stem from feelings of anxiety, depression, change, loss of a loved one, or being let go from a job. Events like these can invite terrible pain and little time to adapt as needed. Life demands that we keep moving forward. So, on the outside we often look like we “have it together” but on the inside, you feel like you are falling apart. You feel like no one truly understands the hurt you are experiencing. It’s as if everyone wants you to be the person you used to be, move on, suck it up, and pretend like you're fine. Except, you are tired of pretending, tired of waiting.

By now you have probably read so many profiles your head is spinning and your eyes are bleary.. Finding the perfect therapist is an impossible ideal. The goal should be to find someone who has enough clinical and life experience, enough training, and someone who is interested in really listening to you to help you get unstuck from where you are now. Just as there is no ideal therapist, there is no ideal patient. We are all wounded in some way, some more, some less. Whatever problems or symptoms are getting in your way, in addition to finding relief for them, developing self understanding goes a long way and lasts a lifetime.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
