She loves to work with people who have experienced trauma or are experiencing issues with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, grief/loss and chronic pain.
There are times in life when we feel stuck. Sometimes it's due to patterns of thinking/behavior that aren’t working for us anymore & other times its from events in our past that are affecting our present. But what we now know with neuroscience is that we can actually reshape how our past experiences impact our current lives. In counseling we can help you better understand your story & make sense of what is keeping you stuck. Sometimes healing looks like challenging negative thought patterns and other times its through trauma processing. By honoring your story you can experience new levels of emotion, self-compassion and connection.

The question I see on the face of almost every new client I meet is: Where do I even begin?! You likely have a complicated story to tell and need someone to help you untangle it, but WOW does that feel daunting. The foundation of my practice is relationally psychodynamic, which is a fancy way of saying I want to help you understand the patterns in your life, help bring to the surface unconscious motivations that have led to self-defeating behaviors, and help you understand how your relationships have affected how you experience trust, safety, and connection. I use humor and metaphor, and value building a strong therapeutic alliance.

I specialize in relationship issues, including codependency. I can help you break old relationship patterns, attract a healthy partner, and bring your best self to a new relationship. There is often underlying attachment trauma with codependency. I address this using a somatic (body)-based psychotherapy that heals these wounds at the deepest level. I am trained in Hakomi and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. My ideal client is someone who is ready to change, is self-aware and self-reflective - someone who is committed to their own growth and development, and willing to put in the time and energy it takes to create a life they love.

Do you feel lost or stuck in your relationship? Let’s help you build a relationship that is secure, stable, and intimate. It is so important for you and your partner to truly understand each other on a deeper level. We have so much conditioning from our upbringing—sometimes we are recreating our past without realizing it. Together, we can interrupt the patterns that are holding you back from the sensual life and relationship you want. I work with desire discrepancies, low libido, sex addiction, polyamory/ENM, Kink/BDSM, and painful sex.

I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients have become very successful despite difficult childhoods and are curious how therapy can help to reduce their suffering, heal from past traumas, and learn healthier ways of attachment. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

When did life start feeling so empty? You can’t remember the last time you felt happy, & you’re tired of walking the tightrope between authenticity & masquerading. Your go-to's of high-achieving, perfectionism, & people-pleasing feel most familiar, but the anxiety & resentment keep growing. You’ve been building a life around the counterfeit you, & it’s lonely. The fact that you’re looking for a therapist tells me you believe you’re worth whatever it takes to occupy your one & only life. And I suspect you have the courage & grit it takes to bridge the gap between the life you’re living & the life you long for. So how does it work?

According to my mother, my first word was "why." Why is the sky blue? Why can't I have a cookie for breakfast? Why are people hurting? This curiosity is integral to my work as a therapist, as I strive to understand my client's worldview and the problems they are facing. Whether you are reliving past trauma, plagued by worrisome thoughts, concerned about your relationship or substance use, or feeling generally dissatisfied in life, I will provide an empathic ear, support, and guidance to help you meet these challenges and make the life changes you desire.

I like to work with clients who want more than short-term symptom relief; I want to help you make meaningful and sustainable changes. I enjoy working with clients motivated to better understand themselves and improve their quality of life, especially as they navigate challenges related to anxiety, lack of confidence, life transitions (and/or stagnancy), gender roles, and relationships (e.g., friendships, family relationships, professional relationships, and dating/romantic relationships).

If your past is messing with your here and now, and you want to be seen as you truly are: endearingly human? A glorious mess? At least as good as that person? Well, we could be a good fit! It’s fine if you don’t remember the past or your memories are all too vivid, even visceral at times. Perhaps, you just want to finally have relationships like you think others get to have, but you’re too (fill in the blank) to have what you long for?

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
