Same fight. Different day. “He just doesn’t get it…” “Does he even care?” “She won’t give me a break.” “I’m not sure how much longer I can take this.” Distance and fighting in a marriage can feel like slow death. Stress. Tension. Sadness. Hopelessness. The life you have built together - house, kids, careers - all hanging in the balance. Just going through the motions is no way to live your lives together. The once unthinkable - splitting up - is now on your mind more than ever.

Entering into therapy with a clinician who is skilled, empathic, understanding, and without judgement is a critical component to a successful therapeutic experience. I view therapy as a collaborative process where you and I work together to define your treatment goals and explore the issues that are of concern to you. I work hard to create a safe, supportive environment where you can share your experiences, elicit feedback, and work towards change. While my primary therapeutic model is psychodynamic, I also take advantage of other modalities, working to meet the individual needs of my clients.

Do you struggle in your personal relationships? Have you been in multiple relationships that went a little too quickly? Are you looking for external gratification instead of working from within? Have you experienced a car accident, being domestically abused, and or anything that was traumatic for YOU? If any of these questions resonated with you give me a call. I specialize in anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and trauma. We live in a world full of invalidation and sometimes all it takes to feel better is to be validated. Giving yourself one hour per week or per month will give you the ability to look within.

Heart Centered Therapy helps you connect to what is Essential and True within yourself. It supports you in restoring inner balance, aliveness, peace and meaning in your life and in your relationships. The accumulations of life challenge, stress and trauma create beliefs, emotions and thoughts that become conditioned patterns. that cover up and distract us from our ability to be present. These patterns interfere with our sense of self and relationships. Authentic presence returns as the patterns of stress and trauma are integrated restoring a natural vibrancy and aliveness.

Life can throw unexpected curves that seem to come out of nowhere and leave us feeling overwhelmed, and disconnected from ourselves, others, and the world around us. Regardless of where you are in life, my goal is to provide a space where you can feel understood, supported, & empowered. While it may be tempting to delay starting therapy, most people know in their heart that the time is now. The first steps are easier than you realize. I can help you explore difficult emotions, strengthen relationships with yourself and others, and develop healthy communication skills, boundaries, and coping skills.

We work with people, not labels. It’s about you, a person. And us, people. It becomes about us working together for your goals, whatever those are-we can help. Are you surprised when you feel something but it “doesn’t make sense”? Do you then “should” & judge yourself? We all waste a helluva lot of time doing this. How often have you tried to think yourself out of a feeling? Right? Doesn't work! Together we can figure out how & why you think, feel & behave the way you do. You can't think your way out of feeling unhappy & dissatisfied. We can help you work through your barriers to a better place.

If you're reading this, you may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. Perhaps your important relationships are suffering. Maybe you know exactly what is causing your distress, or maybe something just feels off. These could be new feelings or feelings you've experienced your entire life. Often, the work I do involves exploring how earlier experiences may be impacting current symptoms, building an understanding of what is happening in the brain, and learning strategies to help regulate the nervous system.

PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." This has been a goal in my life, and one I have enjoyed sharing with my clients. These days, most of my clients seek counseling because they are having trouble sleeping, are overindulging in food or alcohol, are feeling angry and irritable, or sad and low on energy, much of the time.

Are you the person others go to for support? Are you unsure of who you are outside of others? Do you feel uncomfortable asking for help? I work with clients who have had to push their needs aside (loved ones of those struggling with mental illness or substance use issues, people in the helping professions, caretakers, etc.) often manifesting in anxiety, depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and low self-esteem. Together we will work to identify your values, needs, and desires and chip away at unhelpful narratives stemming from early life to make space to re-write ones that align with your values and your most authentic self.

You’re here because you need help. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship dysfunction can stifle and hide the person you truly are. You feel inhibited, pressured, and isolated, but throughout it all you know there is still something amazing within you. What stops you from being your true self when alone or around others? What stops you from knowing how to take care of yourself? This is what I can explore with you. I want to help you shed what is holding you back and illuminate pain that may be keeping you comfortably stagnant. I want the world to meet who you are.

The focus for my practice is reproductive counseling. I help clients facing struggles with infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and perinatal mood disorders. I work to form a strong relationship with clients to help them understand the many transitions and some loss that accompanies new parenthood or expanding families. I also see clients who have moved on from having children and are now facing the changes that come with peri-menopausal syndrome and menopause. My approach to this work is through a relational approach with some cognitive behavioral and mindfulness strategies.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
