Do you feel like every day is a struggle? Is your day-to-day life not getting you where you want to be? Perhaps the current situation you find yourself in doesn't match what you had imagined for yourself. Maybe you feel like you don't have anyone in your life you can share these thoughts and feelings with. These feelings can wear us down over time, making us feel like a failure, left wondering what we can realistically do to change things. If you're ready to take that step and make a change, I believe that there is no better time to do so than now.

I have served those with Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Family Issues, etc. My ideal client is motivated to roll up their sleeves and engage in the therapeutic process. They have an open mind and can practice effective coping skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. They can challenge themselves to be vulnerable and practice accountability while processing their problematic thinking patterns and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental environment. They wish to engage in therapy because they realize that they need to make a change and are willing to take a leap of faith to make it happen.

When I meet with clients for the first time I often ask them the question "How would you know counseling was working for you?" Commonly, the client will begin to discuss a different experience they would like to have in their life. This may be in a relationship, career stressors, a life transition, loss/grief or around overwhelming emotions like anxiety, depression, loneliness, guilt, or fear. Answering this question helps us to gain clarity about what you want to experience in your life and begin the process of bringing it to fruition. My mission is to best serve your needs and help you to move toward your vision for the future.

Are you struggling with grief and loss, whether that is the sudden or expected loss of a loved one, a divorce, a breakup, perinatal loss, or the end of a friendship? If so, you deserve to heal, grow, and thrive in your life, and I’m here to help you on that path. In therapy, we will explore the barriers that stand between you and your most authentic self, so that you are able to live more fully and enjoy who you truly are. In addition to working with individuals, I also work with couples who are facing challenges in their relationship, whether due to a loss or death of someone close, or as a result of faulty communication.

Are you hurting so much that you're wondering if living is really worth all this pain? It hurts so bad that it feels physical; you can feel it in your gut. You don't let those closest to you know what's going on because no one gets it; no one can help. Sometimes you feel completely out of place, like you don't belong here. Everything hurts so much and you can't stand it anymore. You keep looking for ways to take it all away. You don't deserve to hurt like this anymore. And you don't have to. It's time to take control of your emotions so your emotions stop controlling you.

I want to reach people who are looking to deepen their relationships, recover from their past and become the person who they really want to be. So often we are going in circles with each other and ourselves, unable to break out of the stuckness we feel or the issues that never seem to go away. That is where I come in. If you acknowledge having a life-long inner critic, emotionally distant or dissatisfactory relationships, chronic health issues (mental and physical) and a lack of authentic connection, then I would love to support you in finding the root cause and creating lasting change.

Life's challenges bring us to our knees. A Licensed Professional Counselor, "LPC", helps. Since 1990 my work with courts, hospitals & schools has helped. I have "been there" -- I "get it". While working F/T for UC, I earned my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling (diagnosis & treatment of mental & emotional disorders) before earning my Doctorate at UD in my 20's as a F/T employee. As Practice Owner & Miami Univ (OH) Licensed Clinician, research shows us DBT, EMDR, and CBT work. In 1990, at Beech Acres, 1st approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio to Co-Lead, a Specialized Family Mediation Training for Attorneys & Therapists.

As a sex therapist I often have clients tell me that being intimate with their partner has become another one of the responsibilities to check off the "To-Do" list; describing sex as a chore, or even a burden. Having sexual issues can have devastating effects on individuals and couples. There are many reasons why sex becomes an issue in relationships: sexual shame from their upbringing, pain during sex, trying to understand their sexuality and preferences or processing past trauma. Working with a professional in a safe & professional space to communicate their feelings & thoughts can have a huge impact.

My ideal client is ready to do the hard work of making real change in their life. Sometimes, people think change has to be big to start therapeutic services; it doesn’t. Sometimes, learning to breathe, decrease anxiety, and be more mindful of your strengths can become a great asset. Therapy doesn’t have to be forever; sometimes, you just need help getting through the now. I help individuals & families dealing with chronic illnesses and end of life. At times like those, crises often happen: medical conflict, spiritual conflict, familial conflict, financial concerns, housing and food insecurity.

I have been a psychotherapist for over 25 years. I provide a nurturing environment where we can safely explore difficult issues. I have a highly interactive approach and believe that the best results come from a strong therapeutic relationship. Many of the people I work with are the "walking wounded" - 'regular folks' feeling that they are not dealing well with the stresses of everyday life. Other people I work with have a history of chronic mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorder.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
