I specialize in helping people contemplate life transitions, relationship patterns and/or core beliefs (conscious and un) that inform behaviors and choices. I pay close attention to complex family dynamics and help clients unravel, and heal, the wounds that may have originated there. I can be useful in situations where the health of one member affects the wellbeing of the entire family. I help people explore the dynamics at play in depression, anxiety and self-esteem, with an emphasis on healthy outcomes both intra and interpersonally. I assist with trauma healing and grief/loss. I assist clients with their actualizing potential.

When we begin working together the client will set the pace and tone for treatment. This means we will work on identifying where you would like to take your treatment and how to begin. You may have realized you would like to help ease symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even interpersonal conflicts.

What do you see? Personal specialties include: Adults and Adolescents with Depression, Anxiety, Trauma Recovery, Couples Counseling, LGBTQ focus, and Chronic Illness Recovery.
As far back as I can remember I've always had an innate desire to help others and see their needs while being both patient and positive. This led me to a career in therapy and early on in this career I was fascinated with seeing the power of exposing people's inner strengths, allowing them a safe place to vent and work on coping skills. After a few years I continued to have a lingering feeling like I could be doing more for my clients. This led me to combine these existing techniques with a new theory called Emergence.

Do you feel like you are in a constant battling with your own mind or body? You may be struggling with intrusive anxiety, traumatic memories, or chronic illness. And your methods of coping are not serving you - you feel so locked in avoidance, suppression, or distraction that you can’t recognize yourself or what you stand for. Your life feels centered on avoiding pain instead of your most important values.

I provide treatment for general mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, as well as interventions for health behavior change for concerns such as insomnia, pain, smoking cessation and chronic illness.
Each person brings to therapy a unique life story that deserves to be heard in a trusting and respectful environment. We will spend the first sessions gaining an understanding of who you are and what brings you to therapy. Together, we will develop a tailored plan with realistic goals that address your specific needs and desires. We will move through the sessions at a pace that feels safe and meaningful and we will build a therapeutic collaboration that enables us to explore your thoughts and feelings with nonjudgmental curiosity and kind openness to your life experiences.

I specialize in depression, anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), trauma, and chronic illness.
I received my Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University and my Violence Against Women and Children certification from Rutgers University. I deeply care about helping clients who have experienced traumatic events. Before choosing a career in Social Work, I obtained a degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. At an early age, I realized that helping others brings me joy and fulfillment. Seeing a smile on my clients’ faces and learning they are feeling better is the greatest reward for my work.

I work in addictions, chronic illness, mood disorders, stress, grief, relationship issues, workplace problems, transgender to name a few.
It is important to have physical and mental well-being.Therapy is a process of self discovery and healing. I believe in the process and help people understand that we do it together. It takes time to work on one's issues but I believe in the process of growth and positive change. I help people recognize that you have to love oneself , feel you deserve to be happier and do the work to make that happen.I believe that people are survivors and can overcome obstacles. I look up insurance benefits for patients and do all billing to lessen patient worry over this. I provide telehealth therapy for those who work from home or are disabled

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
