I work with adults who come to therapy to work through depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, sexuality and gender issues, bereavement, chronic illness, and other problems.
Therapy offers you a place to feel seen, heard, and accepted so that you can understand yourself differently and move closer to the life you desire. I practice psychotherapy in the belief that flourishing in the face of past traumas and present challenges is possible. Despite the uncertainty of our current world, working with a therapist you trust can restore hope, instill calm, and imbue life with new meaning.

Our approach is to meet you where you are at. I think of myself as a co-pilot, with your hands on the wheel and the brakes so we take things at your pace. There is nothing we can't talk about together. Unlike other relationships, the therapeutic one is solely there for you. You are free to talk about whatever is on your mind and not protect me from your pain, emotions or fears. Our team has helped many through mindfulness, trauma-focused CBT and insight-oriented integrative approaches. Nothing is more fulfilling than witnessing our clients face extraordinary challenges and then thrive in their personal and professional lives.

IFS Therapist with an eclectic and inventive approach. Practicing Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I believe that people already have within themselves what they need in order to overcome their struggles. All it takes is a bit of guidance and someone to ask the right questions. My wish for my clients is that they find the inner freedom to live the life that they want. I mostly work with expats, travelers, digital nomads, burners - I can relate to the lifestyle and can appreciate the need for flexibility and rescheduling sessions when necessary, however, anyone is welcome.

Many of the clients that I partner with are individuals who are looking for joy but may struggle with past issues, hurts, and pain. Some of my partners struggle with rejection, race, class and gender issues that are impacting their peace. Others that I work with are looking for their niche in life and need help processing their emotions or just need an extra ear. I have partnered with many who are along their grieving process journey or dealing with a break-up. Some may come from emotionally or physically abusive backgrounds, be it from parents or partners. Together we can build the future you want, need and have imagined!

Life’s journey features many complex and dynamic processes. How we come to learn about ourselves and understand life around us is key in how we experience it. It is my belief that self-care with the purpose of healing and self discovery can radically improve our experience navigating everyday life and have powerful impacts in the world around us. Informed by principles of social justice and anti-oppression, I offer a space to work with you as an individual in context of communities that you are a part of and are important to you. My practice integrates psychodynamic, cognitive and mindfulness techniques.

Challenges in life can be overwhelming if not downright defeating without support. As your therapist, I begin with building our relationship while we identify and address the reasons you are seeking treatment. My ultimate goals are to help you determine what is keeping you from living your ideal life and create a safe space where we can explore your life experiences. I strive to instill a spirit of hope and provide encouragement that change can be possible and that you are the ultimate agent of that change. Together, we will help you lay the groundwork to make positive changes that will serve to enrich your life.

My focus in working with patients is for them to feel deeply understood by me and to feel safe in exploring their issues, whatever they might be. This understanding is best accomplished, in my mind, through the use of empathy. What is it like for you to be you? For me, the relationship between patient and therapist must point in the direction of healing oneself and through oneself, others. I fundamentally believe, like others before me, that the patient is the one who guides the process. Similarly, it is the patient who is my best teacher.

Our shared cycle of human life confronts us with issues longing to be addressed in the here and now, even as rooted in the past or in a sense of unrealized potentials. We do best in engaging such concerns, including the end of life itself, when our explorations occur in an open and activating dialogical process. Additional to the interpersonal process of therapy, our dreams and our engagement with what transcends us, often provide us with the guidance needed to move forward in our living process in a renewed and dynamic manner. Collaboratively and with mutuality, this is the service I am privileged to offer.

"Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of up and downs. It's a journey of discovery - there are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair"- Rick Warren. We all struggle with past or present situations that can get in the way of us living our lives wholeheartedly and that have an impact on the connection with oneself and others. Whenever you are going through a difficult time and you are confused about what is your next step, connecting with a trained therapist can be very helpful.

As a native New Yorker, born and raised on Long Island, living in the city for the last 10 years, I have been connected to the people who choose to live here. A bustling city where, as Frank Sinatra said so well, "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere". I believe this to be true and I believe it to be easier with the work of psychology.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
