Times are tough, people aren’t. The world is changing and pressures seem to be coming from all sides, creating a sense of chaos. This stress and frustration, sometimes added to preexisting feelings of anxiety, fear, anger and depression has taken a toll on all of us. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you discover nonproductive patterns and learn how to navigate the road toward acceptance, love, awareness, forgiveness, and recovery. I work with you to discover a better path forward, believing that this is a lifelong journey that enables us to appreciate the mountaintop experiences, and to cope with the valleys.

You want to appear as if you have it all figured out and that you are "ok", but deep down you are struggling with self-worth, coping, anxiety, conflict, and a clear direction in life. Everyday leaves you feeling overwhelmed, drained, and unsure about your roles and place in this world. Being a teenager, adulting, parenting, and caregiving is so much harder than you imagined. You feel so alone in your struggle, and you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to start honoring yourself and your needs, even when it is hard. Most of all, you’re ready to do things differently, and you know the power to do that starts with you.

I believe relationships define each of us and form the foundation for our life. I work from a systemic perspective with couples, individuals, and families to create relationships that define not only who we are, but also who we desire to become. I help clients with their relationships, intimacy, connection, communication, and sexual compatibility. I work with a lot of women who have suffered from Narcissistic abuse in relationships and family of origin. I also help those who are confused in their current relationships. I enjoy helping those who have autoimmune disease and cancer redefine their sexuality, relationships and desire.

Do you feel like the challenges around you are interfering with your life? Maybe a relationship hurdle. The grief of losing a loved one. All that pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting can bring. Are you struggling to communicate with your partner or children? Challenged by a new diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder and do not know where to turn? Maybe you are new to adulthood and feel that you do not know how to navigate your day-to-day life.

Hello, I have 25 years of experience having worked with various populations and issues. I believe that life is a journey that presents to us constant experiences for learning and growth to become your best self, whatever that means to you. Change is challenging as one becomes comfortable in the uncomfortable. But as you become aware of the routines and patterns that you continue with that are not working for you, you will be moving toward making lifelong changes that not only affect you positively but also your relationships with others. Change is possible, anxiety and depression are manageable and you are well worth your time.

Chronic Illness Therapists

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
