Many people entering therapy say "I want to fully know myself." We can focus on concerns around: meaning and purpose; unwanted shifts in feelings and thoughts; identity; unhealthy habits and addictions; anxiety; relationship difficulties; and wounds (trauma) that have been difficult to experience throughout life. Therapy with me is a helping relationship aimed to create conditions of appreciation and realness. As a therapist, I practice being a safe host, so you may be able to have experiences that are moving/transforming/insightful. I am also a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia.
My therapeutic practice is humanistic/existential and relational, meaning therapy is experiential, and if certain conditions are present, you can become more genuine. We can use the body/somatic experiences, viewing you within cultural/societal contexts, and Internal Family Systems theory to release stuck parts of yourself. Developmental trauma is a focus.
I have 17 years experience as a professional helper in outpatient, residential, and crisis stabilization settings. I have conducted outpatient therapy and crisis interventions with adults, families, adolescents, and children. I served the City of Norfolk as a therapist for over 4 years. I am also a musician and value the creative process!
