Seeking therapy can be an overwhelming and confusing process. There are often many personal issues that drive our need to seek help, which are not easy to bring up, and may have never been brought up before at all. From trauma to legal problems, sexuality to substance use, and everyday stress to severe mental illness, sometimes all we need is for someone to sit with us and help us solve the problems that we don't believe we can talk about with anyone else in our lives. The only necessary starting point is the willingness to explore what brought you to seek help in the first place.
As a gay, Asian/Hawaii-local male, with more than 20 years of active recovery myself, I work well with culturally diverse individuals, and I understand change from a firsthand perspective in many respects. Professionally, I have extensive experience in integrated behavioral health, addiction, and forensic treatment settings.
Our work together can involve CBT, mindfulness, and skill-building for a variety of issues including guilt, shame, anger, depression, anxiety, trauma, etc. Change does not have to be intimidating, sudden, or large-scale. More often, it takes time, trust, and teamwork. You don't have to keep trying to figure it out alone.
