Greetings! In my work as a psychotherapist, I stand along side individuals who are struggling with anxiety spectrum disorders (including trauma-related disorders), mood disorders, difficulty with regulating emotion and/or tolerating distress, marital or relationship concerns, disordered eating, infertility, and chronic health issues. I believe the therapy relationship is a critical part of healing, which is supported by years of research. You can expect me to work with you in developing approaches to healing that fit your needs, comfort level and strengths.

I focus on clients navigating a difficult time in their lives, whether that is infertility, infidelity, divorce, or realizing that they have a history of spiritual trauma or sexual abuse to heal from. I have a particular affinity for people who are navigating a Dark Night of the Soul, sometimes thought of as an existential crisis. My ideal client is looking to heal and move through difficult times by exploring deeply into their issues, challenges, and traumas.

I believe therapy can be beneficial for everyone, as we all experience difficulty in life, a need for healing, a desire for wholeness, or just for things to "get better." If you are struggling, be it with grief, relationships, or a sense of stuckness, you don't have to do it alone. I'm happy to be on your life journey with you! I work with adolescents, adults, and children age 10+, as well as couples and families. As a chaplain and pre-licensure marriage and family therapist, I work from a relational and systemic perspective, honoring the spiritual and religious backgrounds of all people as we explore what's meaningful to you.

I work collaboratively with my clients to define and explore the things they want to change. Most of my clients come to therapy because something in their lives isn't working anymore. They want to let go of old habits and deepen their sense of well-being. I help my clients build skills that create the conditions for growth. These skills, practiced over time, allow my clients to connect more deeply with themselves and others, and move more purposefully into the lives they choose. My goal is to facilitate my clients' movement beyond symptom relief to real and lasting change.

You are feeling alone and overwhelmed. You are anxious and the negative thoughts in your head are becoming louder and more difficult to control. Your sleep is poor and when you wake you feel tired already. You want help from a holistic perspective. I will teach you how to manage your mind and your nervous system so that you can function better during the day and sleep well at night. I will help you heal the root causes of your anxiety. Your relationships and your health will improve. A "fresh look" look at your difficulties might bring hope into a situation that you have considered to be hopeless.

I've worked in a variety of settings over the years: in schools, community mental health, in home therapy, pregnant and parenting youth programs, grief/hospice, inpatient/residential/outpatient eating disorder treatment and college counseling. In these settings I've been fortunate to work with clients at different stages of life and circumstance. I also consult with parents who are preparing to launch their young adult to college, as this can be a confusing, challenging and emotional time for all. Additionally, I'm certified in Prepare/Enrich, working with engaged and married couples in strengthening their relationship.

We have three options for working together. (1) If you seek or are coping with big life changes, I offer counseling for support and building resilience. (2) If something within you is changing or you seek to change yourself, I offer psychotherapy for exploring depths beneath everyday awareness to guide your growth. (3) If you are looking deep into and beyond your circumstances and yourself, I offer spiritual direction as you explore the likes of great mysteries, meaningful existence, and spiritual practice. — Most of my work is with people in midlife, when these three types of inner work often call for equal attention.

Are you feeling down, anxious, angry or unhappy? My philosophy is that "Life is too short" and for all the bad there is just as much good. Therapy helps one to start finding the good in life and making the necessary changes for that to happen. It is about learning new skills and trying on new ways of living. I feel that as a therapist I become a coach, cheerleader, supporter and confidant. You have already taken the hardest step and that is to admit that there is a problem and to seek help. I look forward to the Journey.

I specialize in college students struggling with ADHD, anxiety, perfectionism, isolation/loneliness, and/or low self worth. I work best with people that have felt "missed", misjudged, or marginalized and have internalized an unhealthy pattern of self-criticism. Your transformation and healing in therapy will come through consistently and compassionately improving your relationship with yourself. You need to be willing to face all your emotions (yes, even the unpleasant ones), embrace your vulnerability, and reconnect with a strong sense of self worth and belonging.

At some point in life, nearly all of us feel something is out of balance. This can cause significant distress and be emotionally painful. In an atmosphere of acceptance and trust, we'll explore where it hurts, what is out of balance, and the root causes of emotional distress such as anxiety, depression, grief, and suffering. We’ll work together to address your symptoms, gain deeper awareness and understanding about yourself, and find greater meaning in your life. Just as our physical body has an innate propensity towards growth and healing, I believe we have an innate potential towards emotional growth and healing within us as well.

Opening for 2 clients (online). I specialize in helping college students who feel they are not “enough” or should be different or perfect. They often feel invisible, unappreciated, and end up in "toxic" relationships. Do you give your kindness and compassion to others but not yourself? If you're willing to feel all the feelings and be vulnerable, you can challenge the "shoulds" in your mind and learn to accept and celebrate your authentic self. You can correct unhealthy relationship patterns (even with yourself), assert good boundaries, and practice self-compassion. Life is hard enough without you being so hard on yourself!

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Northfield?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
