In my practice, I use CBT to help clients focus on their strengths and what is going well in their lives. We work on re-framing to approach situations from a fresh perspective. Learning to problem-solve, developing healthy coping mechanisms and practicing assertive communication skills are integral parts of treatment.
I try to create an atmosphere of acceptance and warmth and model for all my clients the importance of being able to laugh at oneself. With children and adolescents I use play therapy and encourage creativity as an outlet for feelings.
