I hold certificates in CBT trauma for children and adults, have worked with domestic violence groups, as well as participated in parenting groups and helped lead emotionally focused groups for children ages 5 to 12. I have also counseled couples through issues of trust, dysfunction, and infidelity. In the coming months I look to complete certificate programs in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, a trauma/PTSD focused protocol), geriatric populations and their unique issues and challenges, as well as refine my trauma skills by continuing in trauma focused interventions through CBT as well as art therapy.

I believe that as humans we all experience suffering, and sometimes those negative experiences can impact the way we view ourselves, others, and the world. Stressful or traumatic experiences can lead to depression, anxiety, sleep issues, avoidance, and negative thoughts and emotions, including anger, guilt or shame. Many mental health issues and destructive patterns are developed out of difficult or traumatic experiences which are stored in our emotional memory networks and have yet to be processed in an adaptive way.

Chronic stress, life changes, loss, trauma, illness, or relational problems can cause coping difficulties that impact quality of life. Although time alone can sometimes help, meaningful resolution of the problems and real growth takes place within the context of a supportive relationship.
